Any woman taller than me without heels. No matter how good looking they are there is no way I will talk to them. Unless they are like a giant grandma. Fucking petrified of them.

    • Captain Indifferent Says "Whatever" Review

      Two years after the first kick in the uk conventional and consensual anthill, through their first eponymous album, Alamos finally unveils its successor and the ten new tracks recorded in analogic with legendary inventive and independent producer, Steve Albini, just through one small week last year. Creating a unique sound at the crossings of a very muscled late nineteen rock, similar to the late Joyrider, and of clinical metal in the Therapy ? vein, Alamos had demonstrated its great technique mastery as well as its innate sense for primitive melodies, short, sharp and without concessions.
      The in-between single which came out last year and that can be found in a more artisanal version on Captain Indifferent Says, « Whatever » had sown an important turn around or a very opportune transition in the trio's style, as well as in its musical approach, now much more personal and less artificial. From that point, priority was given to tortured atmospheres, distorted and very experimental, slightly lo-fi in the Sonic Youth way, and a little independent US rock in the Shellac or Fugazi way. Most probably, the album, which title sounds as crooked and abundant as the bands just named, will go further ahead in this direction opened by Silly Icarus…
      In fact, all the songs on the album without exception brilliantly oscillate between progressive rock, multiplying breaks and other rhythm changes, and catchy intimist melodies, drowned under more lethal from one to another riffs. From the fantastic Number Cruncher and its fake ending halfway, before a devastating second blow takes us by the guts until the final take-off, to the minimalist and aerial Attenuate, Alamos, most probably for the producer's greatest pleasure, refreshes the genre, even sublimates it, close to perfection, as if the American references, more noisy and tearful, melodic variations had always lacked this so british touch of subtility and energy, created by of such a rare sharpness guitars.
      From one end to another of their second rejoiceful album, Alamos ravish us more after each listen with their authentic, original and inspired songs. Their album offers us a rare homogeneity, urgent, dense, and without any musical bending, which conceptual dimension adds even more interest. More than brilliantly performed and undoubtedly one of the albums of the year 2008, Captain needs to be in every good rock indie amateur's collection.

      On the fateful friday tat was the 2nd of November, big andy, josh and I decided to go to the Hive.

      Little did we know Andy's chat up line of "Ladies, what colour is my beard" would actually work....... on a MIDGET.

      Her name was bean, cruising on in at just under 5' by the looks of things, smoking rollies.

      On this pleasantly warm evening, Andy and I decided to walk home with Bean as she lives nearby. However on the long and winding road BA decided to stay on her path "For the crack".

      I naturally thought he meant Banter. His meaning of crack was different.

      05.36am on the Saturday morning arrives along with a text message from Big Yin himself.

      "U know its a poor night when i am doing the walk of shame lol"

      What he is lol-ing at I have no idea. Maybe trying to laugh off the shame?!
