- This is the band for the Sport and Leisure committee of the Scottish Youth Parliament. Heather McCabe is currently the convenor of this committee and Jamie McArthur is the Deputy Convenor.
We have now put together a set of To-do's for next year. We are in the process of organising the making of a video that will encourage a more healthy lifestyle. We hoping that members of the committee will be very much involved in the making of the video with the possibilty of bringing in our MSYP's or actors in addition to this. The idea of having the video played at Hampden during sporting events is also being investigated.
At the same time a new leaflet/hand-out is being developed to be handed out around schools in Scotland. This should hopefully boost our campaign to make Scotlands young people more active and healthy.
Its a new term for Sport and Leisure and its sure to be an interesting one.

Sports facitlies- Too expensive? Not enough of them? - You decide!
At present, Scotland has a terrible reputation for overweight children, young people and adults included. Many people believe this is due to bad eating habits others think its lack of exercise. Some believe both are causing the rise of "Fat Scotland". Obesity has major health implications also. It raises the chances of a heart attack and other sometimes fatal illnesses. Bullying may also be caused by obesity with schools and the workplace which can effectively cause mental unstability.
One way to tackle this "growing" issue is to ensure that all young people have a chance to participate in sports or simply have the chance to use a gym. However in some areas there can be a lack on sports facilities or gym fees can be extortionate.
What are your views on this topic, what can be done and how do you think the SYP Sport and leisure committee can approach this topic in the present two year term. - JM1 komentarz 821 dni

Update on committee stuff..
Ive started putting in the feedback from the questionnaires that Ive had so far - its between 1500 and 2000 results so far. If you have any to hand can you please do it in the near future.
I know its exam/prelim time so thats why Ive no contacted you all and left you to concentrate on them. Could everyone please give me a heads up on when they are free to help out with putting in the results!!! Cheers
Also Ive decided to put on hold the campaign day as I feel its not realistic we can use the money by March and make a good use of it!!

Hey everyone!! Gettin excited for xmas yet?
Another update on the committee...
Glad to say that we have a mentor for the committee, he is the head of Scottish Sports Association and is very interested in our campaign which is similar to theirs - and str8 away he sent our questionnaire to all sporting bodies in Scotland so fingers crossed we'll get a strong response.
Received over 1000 responses which is AMAZIN!!! Keep up the gd work. S&L KICKS ASS

Just an update on the campaigns...
Young Scot are happy to host the questionnaire on their national website which is great news. Plus they are happy to work with us in the campiagn.
Also Ive heard back from a school in Highland and they want over 500 copies of the questionnaire which is FAB news for us.
