- Whats is the LGBT Campaign?
The USI LGBT Campaign is autonomous. This means that the policy decisions and directions that the campaign takes are independent of the USI Officer Board, Congress and the USI National Council.
The LGBT Rights Officer and Working Group provide support and information to individual students, LGBT societies and Students' Unions. USI LGBT Standing Conference, which is held annually, decides the direction and policy of the campaign. Standing Conference is open to all members of USI and is where the USI LGBT Rights' Officer and the USI LGBT Working Group is elected.
The campaign is mandated to campaign on a number of issues that effect LGBT students. The main campaigns are as follows:
The MSM Blood Ban campaign
The 'One in Ten' campaign
Bisexuality Campaign
LGBT Mental Health campaign
Transgender campaign
Anti-Homophobia campaign to challenge bigotry & discrimination.

- To actively campaign against the removal of the LGBT position from full time to part time you can:
1. Write to your Students' Unions and ask them to confirm their ongoing support for the LGBTRO as a full-time position and in respect of those who respond negatively seek to identify the reasoning behind their position and so as to effectively persuade for a change in their position.
2. Lobby your Students' Union against this removal
3. Pass on the booklet for on the need and effectiveness of the LGBT Rights Officer as linked above
4. Attend USI National Congress to oppose any motion for the removal bu your College - Any more questions...

Retention of LGBTRO
Conference emphasises
The need, within the current political climate, for a full time LGBT Rights Officer.
Conference is appalled by
The ever increasing attack on the permanent nature of the LGBT Rights Officer position by varying Students Unions' around the country at USI National Congress.
Conference Notes with Concern
Whenever USI has any financial or internal difficulties the position of the LGBT Rights Officer is always first on the agenda for removal, even though it is the strongest campaign by far that USI currently has in popularity, activity and involvement from ordinary students.
Conference believes
That this unstable nature does not aid the LGBT campaign function as efficiently or as fluidly as it should as each year the LGBT Rights Officer and working group must mount a fight from within the student movement to protect itself.
Conference further believes
That the USI Welfare Officers work load is far too large already to encompass the campaigning role of the LGBT Rights officer
Conference Notes
That the removal of the women's rights action committee has resulted in a complete lack of campaigns by USI in relation to women's rights
Conference further notes
That there has been little or no campaigning on disability rights by USI in the past number of years
Conference Applauds
The work done by the LGBT campaign within USI, the strong presence it has within the national LGBT movement, its active campaigning nature, popularity amongst ordinary students within CO's and ability to bring these student into the student political sphere.
Conference notes with disappointment
That yet again this year National Congress will have a motion calling for the removal of the LGBT Rights Officer.
Conference Mandates the LGBTRO and the LGBT Working Group
To actively campaign against the removal of the LGBT position from full time to part time by:
1. Writing to all Students Unions and asking them to confirm their ongoing support for the LGBTRO as a full-time position and in respect of those who respond negatively seek to identify the reasoning behind their position and so as to effectively persuade for a change in their position
2. Writing to LGBT Societies and asking them to lobby their Students Unions against this removal
3. Producing a booklet for distribution on the need and effectiveness of the LGBT Rights Officer
4. Encouraging LGBT Soc members to attend National Congress to oppose any motion for the removal
5. Forming a campaign group to lobby students at National Congress

Stonewall Launches Lesbian Health Survey
Stonewall is conducting the first national survey of lesbian health and well-being, to examine lesbian women’s experiences of healthcare. This is great news for Uk Lesbian and Bi sexual women
It can be accessed from their website at http://www.stonewall.org.uk/campaign...
What's the survey about?
If you're lesbian, bisexual or simply a woman who sleeps with women, Stonewall would like you to tell them about your health and wellbeing.
Why are they conducting this survey?
Not a lot is known about the health of lesbians and bisexual women. Sometimes the doctors get it right. Sometimes they don't. The aim of this survey is to ensure that lesbian and bisexual healthcare needs and experiences will be better understood, rather than ignored. This is the first survey of its kind in the UK and could be a real eye opener for us here in Ireland.
Well done stonewall1 komentarz 810 dni

Hey all,
Just letting you know that on a Saturday within the next few weeks, LGBT Noise, in association with USI LGBT, will be holding a rally for full civil marriage in Daunt Sq in Cork.
We don't know the exact date, as we will be doing this on the Saturday after the release of the heads of the civil union bill.
We need everyone who's interested to turn up to this at 2pm on the day, make some noise, listen to some lovely people speaking and let the Irish govt know that civil unions are NOT equality, and we will NOT accept further marginalisation of our families.
And there'll be sandwiches in Instinct afterward too! What more could you want?
I'll let you know more details as I get them. Add me as a friend for blog updates!

Dear ......., ..... SU President
I am emailing you in regards to the proposed downgrading of the LGBT Rights Officer and the LGBT Campaign. I would like to ask what your views on the position are and impress onto you the need for a full time LGBT RO. The LGBT RO provides valuable support to members of the LGBT Community by developing the community in colleges where no community exists. By tackling the government on issues like civil partnerships and adoption they aim to create a more equal environment for students to live in. By highlighting the inequalities that exists within the medical services like the inadequate health services for LGBT Students especially Lesbian and Bi-sexual women and Trans Students and the MSM blood ban which discriminates against gay men. Across the country there are prejudices and stigmas applied to the LGBT Community and the LGBTRO fights these. Please don't downgrade this important campaign as no other campaign currently run by USI works
PLEASE vote NO
Please find links to documents produced by the LGBT Rights Officer and the LGBT working group about the campaign and what we have been up to in the last year.
This document is intended to give students an idea as to what the USI LGBT campaign does and how to get involved. Many have often wondered as to why exactly USI has an LGBT Campaign. This booklet has been written to provide Students' Union Officers and ordinary students with some general information about the campaign, its ethos and its role within USI.
This booklet touches on how the campaign helps students and can be an invaluable resource for both students, Students' Union officers and friends of LGBT students.
