- The Scottish Youth Parliament aims to be a collective voice for Scotland's young people. It is NOT party political, though we do talk to parties. The organisation has members, aged 14-25, elected to represent constituencies and national voluntary organisations. We firmly believe that taking part doesn't have to be boring!

The Big Squat
Today the 19th of November is World toilet day! This may sound like a bit of a laugh but it’s a serious cause. An estimated 2.6 billion people, including 980 million children do not have access to basic sanitation. We might take for granted going to the loo to spend a penny, but as you see from the statistics many people all over the world don’t have the luxuries we have.
What does it mean?
Without having access to proper sanitation, it risks their health, strips people of their dignity, and kills roughly 1.8 million people, mostly children a year. Diarrheal diseases kill five times as many children in the developing world as HIV/AIDS. That's 5,000 children dying every single day. Not only that, but the disease kills more children than either malaria or AIDS, stunts growth, and forces millions - adults and children alike - to spend weeks at a time off work or school, which hits both a country's economy and its citizens' chances of a better future.
Under point seven of our manifesto the Scottish Youth Parliament set out to ensure schools have a responsibility to provide pupils with lockers and adequate toilet facilities in Scotland. This world event struck a chord with us at SYP as it raises the awareness of the importance of good sanitation, which we empathise with as it is something we strive for in our own country. Their mission statement was also very familiar “If everyone works together - we can make a difference” sound familiar? So although this a last minute plea for your support, why not get involved in the events?

It's best not to give out your personal details to online mates.
Personal stuff includes your messenger id, email address, mobile number and any pictures of you, your family or friends.
If you publish a picture or video online – anyone can change it or share it.
SPAM/ Junk email & texts: don’t believe it, reply to it or use it.
It’s not a good idea to open files that are from people you don’t know. You won’t know what they contain – it could be a virus, or worse – an inappropriate image or film.
It’s easier to get on with people online and say stuff you wouldn’t offline.
Some people lie online.
It’s better to keep online mates online. Don’t meet up with any strangers without an adult you trust. Better to be uncool than unsafe!
