  • The Howling vs An American Werewolf In London

    Chris von Chris
BE WARNED!! THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY LONG AND PROBABLY POINTLESS,AS I'M PRETTY SURE NO ONE GIVES A FUCK WHICH IS BETTER,OTHER THAN ME! plus i was bored and i wanted to kill a few hours! so what the fuck..

Okay there's been a long running dispute over which is the best transformation scene ever done when it comes to PRACTICAL SPECIAL MAKE-UP EFFECTS in werewolf movies!
It seem's that there is only two main contenders that have being butting heads between now and then among horror fans. That been both 1981's The Howling and An American Werewolf In London. So i decided to have a little rant on this dispute!! (i use the words "little rant" bluntly)

The Howling : Special Make-Up Effects by Rob Botin.
    Transformation time : 2mins 44secs (roughly)
Scene : Eddie Quist (Robert Picardo) transforms from man to beast in front of seemingly cornered and terrified news reader Karen White (Dee Wallace) in a cabin room in the woods.

The effects here are very impressive and visual as one might hope to see in a werewolf movie.
It starts with his fore head and cheek bones pulsating and bubbling all while the actor still preforms his part while this happens right in front of you're eyes, and to show that this isn't a prop dummy head being used. Impressive stuff! Then up comes the hand to show the nails stretch away from the bloody finger tips all while still showing in the same shot of the pulsating face of Eddie.

Cut away to Karen looking horrified (aaahhhh)

Back to Eddie now with a full view of him from head to waste. Face still pulsating and teeth have lenghtend. And now his chest violently bursts away from him in an expansion and tears his shirt as it convulses in and out like something is trying to escape from inside him.
    Right this is good shit

Cut away to Karen still looking some what horrified

Back to Eddie now with froth drooling from his mouth and teeth and shaking like he's been electrocuted. Close up now up to his shoulders that are bulging through his cheap Pennys shirt like it's Schwarzennegger flexing one of his muscles. Knees and legs are now covered in hair and are at the same thing.

Cut away to Karen who is now looking more like she really needs to piss but doesn't want to miss what happens next.

Now back to Eddie with a head and face only view who's sweaty skin tone resembles that of a Mexican or someone who spent a day out on the Bog. His eye's are now yellow with blood shot quality to them and mouth now starts to force it's way outwards with a nice set of long yellowish sharp crooked teeth on display. All while the eyes roll up and down while this happens as if Rob Botin was saying "hey!! look! i can do two things at once, are you impressed!?" and yes Rob! i am impressed. Then a close up of the teeth again and back to full face view of Eddie still pulsating fore head, expanding mouth and with a big smile on his face! Yes that's right, and big smile on his face, like he just rememberd something funny from the night before but has to continue changing or he's just going to look like a complete ass! Or maybe it was Rob Botin showing off? It doesn't matter because even though he looks ridiculous and funny it's still an eye treat and PRACTICAL like horror make-up should be!

Cut away to Karen who looks like she's gonna faint if she doesn't get to take this piss pronto!

Now the camera moves to an almost profile view of the right side of Eddies head and his mouth opens while still stretching in lenght and we get a close up of his right ear stretching up through his long hair and coming to a point. His fingers are now almost twice the size in lenght and have blood on them from his expanding thick nails. Nice detail Mr Botin! Now the next couple of shots are of his face stretching outward to form a snout which seems to take forever and are just unnecessary. Okay i get what you're doing Rob! it's amazing but now you're just rubbing it in,and you have every right to actually! Eventually we get the full profil

  • 30 Days Of Night Sequel Update

    Chris von Chris
It’s been a year since the Alaskan town of Barrow’s population was decimated by vampires during its annual month long sunset. Riddled with grief over the death of her husband, bound by nightmares and void of all emotions beyond hate and sorrow, Stella has spent the past months traveling the world, trying to convince others that vampires exist. Met with skepticism and laughter, Stella is ready to throw in the towel when a group of lost souls offers an incredible opportunity: the chance to exact revenge upon Lilith, the vampire queen responsible for the assault on her sleepy Alaskan town. With nothing remaining to live for, and nothing left to fear, Stella joins their mission and ventures into the uncharted underbelly of Los Angeles where she pushes herself to the most extreme limits to stop the evil from striking again.

    A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET - 1984

When Johnny Depp's character is lying in bed listening the radio listen to the DJ. The DJ announces that it is station KRGR. KRGR is Krueger without the vowels.

One of the deleted scenes explained that Nancy and her friends were not only children. Their brother or sister had been killed by Freddy. This scene is from the basement scene before Nancy's mom shows her Freddy's glove. - featured on Laser Disc or VHS from Anchor Bay.

Johnny Depp's first film. He came to the audition with his friend Jackie Earle Haley (the new Freddy) where he was spotted by director Wes Craven, who asked him if he'd like to read for the part. Later when Wes Craven was at home his 14yr old daughter spotted Johnny Depp's head shot. She asked her father about him and when he asked why she replied as a 14yr old would "Dad, Johnny Depp? That's COOL!" Just think with out a 14yr's input he may never have appeared in the film!

At the hospital where Nancy's dreams are "examined" (the part where her hair turns white) the nurse is played by Wes Craven's wife, Mimi Craven.

The only times you see the words "Elm Street" are during the opening and closing credits. The word "Elm Street" is not mentioned at all during the movie.

    HALLOWEEN - 1978

The movie had such a small budget that the prop department had to use the cheapest mask they could find. It just happened to be: a Captain Kirk (William Shatner) mask. They painted it white, made the hair stick up and made the eye holes larger.

Due to the small budget and no money for the costumes all the actors wore their own clothes. Jamie Lee Curtis went to J.C. Penny and spent less than $100 for her wardrobe.

John Carpenter was the voice of Annie's boyfriend who you hear on the phone talking to Annie.

The "Myers" house is found in South Pasadena. Through out most of the film the place had to look abandoned. But during the early scenes with a young Michael Myers the house needed to look like a normal home. The whole cast and crew worked together to get the place cleaned up, move in furniture and put up wall paper. They also had to set up running water and electricity only to have it taken out when they were through.

    THE EXORCIST - 1974

The director 'Friedkin William' went to some bizarre lengths to abuse the cast. He'd fire guns off behind the actors to make them jump. During the scene where Father Dyer (played by Reverend William O'Malley) tries to give last rites to Father Karris the director wasn't happy even after several takes. He took Fr. Omalley to the side and asked him if he trusted him. Fr. O'malley answered yes then got slapped across the face. The director then shouted "Action". The director also went as far as putting Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn into harnesses and made the crew members yank them around fiercely. Both Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn were injured during the filming of the movie.

Reverend William O'Malley who played Father Dyer is a real priest. As of 2004 he teaches theology and English at Fordham Preparatory School, Bronx, New York. He has told his students that the movie is 80% true. The main differences between the true story and the movie are that it was a boy who was possessed and it happened is MD. He says most everything else in the movie really did happen.

The sound you heard of the demon leaving Linda's body was the real sound of pigs being herded for slaughter.

A guy who saw the movie back in 1974 during the original release fainted and broke his jaw on the seat in front of him. He sued Warner Brothers and the filmmakers stating that subliminal imagery in the movie caused him to faint. The law suit was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum
    of money.

    STEPHEN KING'S IT - 1990

The scene when Beverly is hearing voices in the drain a boy says his name is Matthew O'Conner which is the name of the Supervising Producer of the movie. A girl says she is Vicky Burrows. Victoria Burrow did the casting fo

No dude! Rick Baker played the wolf along with doing the fx's. Naughton was just used for the transformation. Baker was the lead puppeteer for the wolfs head and suit etc etc. not alot of people know that so it's an easy mistake to make!
