The Official Google Blog has a post that claims the systems Google use to process links on the web to find new content has found 1,000,000,000,000 (One Trillion) UNIQUE URLs on the web at once!

Google does not index all these pages, but still crazy to think that there are that many out there, and that numbers growing by several billion daily!

Of course, the internet will never be complete, until you can find me in a sex tape, so until then why not read the Official Google Blog (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/... ), and keep exploring the internet. (Yeah, its another pointless post)

FRESNO, California (CNN) — An adviser to Sen. John McCain apologized Monday for saying a terrorist attack on the United States would be “a big advantage” for the Republican presidential candidate.

The CNN article goes on to say that when asked by Fortune Magazine if Sen. John McCain would stand to benefit from a terrorist attack on U.S. soil, adviser Charlie Black answered, “Certainly it would be a big advantage to him.”

McCain is just a place filler for the republican party, they can’t not put a candidate forward for the presidency, but after the Bush administration they can’t expect to win a presidential election either.

John McCain has fully supported the Bush policies surrounding terrorism and war. Terrorism has become a major topic of conversation since the attacks of September 11th, 2001, and McCain would undoubtedly gather more support if a terrorist attack were to occur in the run up to the elections, so whats the big deal?

The adviser simply responded to the question that was asked, in a direct fashion. There is no suggestion that the adviser wants a terrorist attack, nor does McCain, but that wasn’t the question, the question was “Would John McCain would stand to benefit from a terrorist attack on U.S. soil?” the answer was yes. There are a lot of people that would stand to benefit from a terrorist attack on U.S soil… if terrorist attacks came in the form of random shootings gun companies would benefit immediately because people would take up arms in protection of themselves, gas attacks, more gas masks would be sold.

For every action, there is a re-action, and someone will benefit from both the action, and the re-action. The advisers comments were not out of line, people just don’t think to read them in the appropriate context. Perhaps he should have answered the question with an answer that really says nothing, or some patriotic crap? Yes, that would probably go down well with the American people, and truth really does not have a place in politics.

To the question “Do You Have EMAIL?” the most likely answer is yes. Me? Of course I have to be difficult, and so begins my first blog at my new home, WilliamRiley.net.

I got postal mail today, which is strange, because I have email, and usually the only things addressed to me come in Courier Bags from an alias of whichever adult entertainment site I bought a product from.

Today, I got postal mail from:

This in itself is slightly strange, because I am legally an adult, and have been for some time. (Guess they don’t care who joins as long as they pay the subs) Inside this envelope I found a small piece (about one third A4) of paper, which looked something like this, horrible formatting and all:

Now to why I am blogging about this: LOTS OF REASONS.

1. Why send a posted letter with something as simple as this, I mean look at the costs… 50 cents for a stamp, around 10 cents for the envelope, and another 10 cents to print of the stupid message. Thats a grand total of 70 cents to ask me to join a mailing list. There was room for a newsletter in the envelope, but none was included. A phone call could have yielded a quick “No thanks” response from me, and all that would have cost them is 10 seconds of time. No wonder this is a not for profit organisation, they couldn’t make a profit the way they operated if they tried

2. Why are you using a personal email account? Its not professional, even for a non profit, invest some of those thousands you are given each year in a domain name and a website, it would serve you a whole lot better and would be an easy way to reach A LOT more people.

3. Who says this is legitimate? There is no marking anywhere that suggests it is legitimate, it could quite easily be someones rather poor attempt at phishing, I mean for all I know after a few months this person could be trying to sell me a miricle cure for diabetes.

4. Policies anyone? There are a million people out there that would just love my personal email address, my email address alone could fetch thousands of dollars, there is no mention of any privacy policy, there is no mention of anything!

So, against my better judgement I am going to subscribe, see what happens and maybe even offer my services. The moral here is, if you don’t know what you are doing, find someone who does.
