someone asked Adam on Twitter about Hairspray 2 and this is what Adam said.
adammshankman Seeing your reply... Does that mean HS2 is officially dead? It would be great if you could clarify so ppl can let go. Thanks.

Link in a Hairspray sequel, in which he will have “lots of great ’60s problems,” says Hairspray creator John Waters. “How rad does that sound?” is all Efron will say, having yet to commit
Nikki Blonsky tells us if the John Waters/Adam Shankman "Hairspray" sequel does become a reality, "I would love to be a part of it." Blonsky, who was plucked out of obscurity to portray Tracy Turnblad in the first film, notes, "Tracy's a character who shows that everybody is equal, and we should all have fun and just live and let live. I would love nothing more than to get out there and spread that message again."
Amanda: I'm not in it. But it's okay, I'm doing Hairspray 2 so no problem. I can't give any information but it's being written.
"I think that’s pretty much a no brainier. I would. I would definitely go back and do a Hairspray 2, 3, 4, 9. Hairspray 9. Hairspray 10 is going to be called Hair Gel. It’s like going to be a sequel. It’s going to have finger waves, braids, bald heads and all that stuff."

Hairspray director Adam Shankman spilled the beans about the sequel to New Line’s blockbuster movie-musical and just how Zac Efron and Brittany Snow fit into the big picture.
Hairspray 2: White Lipstick is the sequel’s official movie title, which was actually the original title for 1998’s Hairspray. Shankman dished to MTV on more of teen idol Zac, 21, and less of Brittany, 22. Here’s what he had to say:
On Link Larkin getting hooked on acid: “I think that’s probably part of the treatment that won’t get used. And in the treatment, [Efron’s drug use] is an accident. That’s the kind of stuff where you’re like: ‘Yeah, I don’t know if that’s going to work.’”
On who will take the place of the Von Tussles, the villians of the movie: “There’ll be a change in villains. [John Waters’ treatment] is ideas that we’re just going to pick and choose from, and we’ll see what happens with it. Probably [no Michelle Pfeiffer]. Not because we didn’t love her, but because we just thought different adversaries [would be necessary].”
On the Vietnam War backdrop: “No, it wasn’t Zac.”
