NAYD is the development organisation for youth theatre and drama in Ireland. Established in 1980, NAYD organises productions including The National Youth Theatre (NYT) and festivals both on a national and regional basis. We produce a number of publications including a monthly newsletter (Intermission) and an annual magazine (Youth Drama Ireland). We also commission new writing and develop guidelines and resources to help your youth theatre run smoothly...... and that's just for starters!!!

This bebo page has been created so that youth theatre members from all over Ireland can stay up to date with current news and events and give us feedback and ideas on what you want from NAYD.

      Hi All,

      We are inviting youth theatre members and leaders to come along to the Project Arts Centre in Dublin on Saturday 3rd October for rehearsed readings of this year's New Stage plays. Three new plays that have been specially commissioned for Irish youth theatre will get their first public airing.

      The plays are:

      Elizabeth & Mr Darcy? Discuss. by Veronica Coburn

      Elizabeth & Mr Darcy? Discuss. …is a choral play about love. It’s also about the Junior Cert and the Leaving Cert and that first exciting/terrifying step beyond second level education. Set against one cycle of the seasons it is choral in form to reflect that which we have in common. We may have much in common but there is also lots to set us apart, so there are individual stories of flirtation, expectation and examination melt down; the individual threads within the collective chorus. Elizabeth & Mr Darcy? Discuss. is particularly suitable for choreographic production.

      A new town, new school and new friends, hopefully. That’s what faces Fran when she arrives in Kildeglin, not knowing anybody and hoping to fit in. Her wish seems to have come true when she immediately finds herself ‘in’ with the likeable and popular Phil, who eases her into the social scene. But doubts about her new friend begin to creep in when Debra, an annoying but harmless eejit, comes into the picture. In figuring out the difference between practical jokes and mental cruelty, Fran is forced to decide where her loyalties lie and maybe risk sacrificing her new found friendships.

      Kylie dreams of becoming a TV talent show star and escaping her manic mother, crazy father, mean sisters and the hell of scrubbing dishes in the family restaurant where chips are the only thing on the menu.
      Then along comes mysterious reality TV host Kidd Young Jr, offering fame and fortune. With Kidd’s help Kylie assumes the alter-ego “Cindy” and before you know it she’s the winner of X-Factory. But things get strange when Kidd forces Kylie to take part in “Get this Celebrity out of here”. It’s a reality show where stars live with ordinary families - only this time it’s her own! Now Kylie’s faced with a choice between fame and family.

      Howdy,
      We've added a short video of edited highlights of NYT 2008. We will be sending the 08 cast a copy with a full recording of the show very soon. Sorry its taken so long:-(

      Tickets are selling quickly for this year's production of The Seagull. Don't forget Youth Theatre members can get tickets for 15 Euro. Its a steal!

      Hey NAYD and general dramatists!! Clondalkin Youth Theatre will be holding a table quiz on Sunday 8th November in the halla nua in Aras Chroinain, Watery Lane. Starting at 8pm. 4 quizzers per table, 20 euro per team! Itd be great to see ya there with all your quizical buddies!! x

      Howdy NAYD!!! Hope its all going well this year? Just dropped by because I realised it was a year ago last Weekend that we had the NYT '08 first Cast Meeting! :O :O :O A year already!!! :( Thats crazy!!!

      Anywho, just wanna wish NYT '09 Best Of Luck with this yrs show....and if its anything like last yr, the cast are gonna have a serious time!!! :D :D :D Enjoy!

      Hi NAYD! My name is Joseph Gallagher and I attend Letterkenny Youth Theatre. I turned sixteen this year and I am so excited about attending the auditions this year. I will be attending the auditions on the 6th of April in Sligo. The Seagull is meant to be an excellent play, I read a lot about it when I was studying Stanislavki's works. He was meant to be a huge fan of it and said to have directed a long and successful run of it in the Moscow Art Theatre. I want to thank you for the work you are doing. This is a great privellege for anyone interested in drama and you should be proud. I sent my audition form out and I look forward to seeing you in Sligo.
