Question 1 - Scotland wouldnt survive independently

False. Scotland has 8.6% of the UK population yet raises 10.41% of all uk tax revenues. Scotland alone contributed a net surplus of £9.632 billion to the UK exchequer. An independant Scotland could do alot with that sort of money can it not?

Question 2 - Scotland would not survive without the Barnett formula handout from England

False. The barnett formula is not subsidy. Its nothing more than a device which gives Scotlands some of its own pocket money out of Scotland pay packet which is taken by the UK treasury. In 2002. Scotland contributed £42.7 Billion to the UK Exchequer and received £18.1 Billion doled back in return via Barnett. It would be a much better idea to keep the 42.7 Billion as an independent country.

Question 3 - North Sea Oil is running out fast and soon there will be nothing left

False. It has been predicted by many scientists that the oil will last till 2050 +.According to the AKOOA over £10 billion has been invested in capital projects in the North Sea in 2005 and the project figure for 2006 is £11.5 billion. Employment in Scotland accounts for 190,000 people directly and indirectly in the industry. It contributed to 75% of the total UK Oil and Gas requirements in 2005. Hardly the performance of and industry on its last legs?

Question 4 - Scotland independently wouldnt be able to have a sufficient Army

False.Scotland cannot defend its self? Why not? Switzerland uses just 1% of its GDP to provide a modern eifficent Army and Air Force. Norway spends 1.9% and can defend itself adequately. The UK spends 2.32% of GDP on armed forces (including Trident) Scotland can afford 1.6% of its GDP and sill have a modern professional armed forces.

Question 5 - Scotland could not pay its own way

False. The UK as a whole now has a balance of payments deficit of £44 billion per annum. Scotland however in 2005 actully contributed a surplus of £3.4 billion. If the exports of north sea oil are taken into account £4 billion, then Scotland would have a net surplus of £7.4 billion making the true remainder of the UK deficit £51.4 billion in the red.

Question 6 - Scotland can not compete against the ''mighty economic muscle of England''

False. Why not? Denmark has an economic superpower to her south (Germany) and she does very well indeed. Switzerland is surrounded by 3 great economic superpowers, France, Italy and Germany, yet she is the most prosperous nation in Europe. Singapore is a tiny island of £4 million people right next door to Indonesia with a population of 201 million yet is the powerhouse driving in the SE Asian economy. Scotland has more than enough natural resources allied to the expertise in its own world beating financial sector to compete and prosper.

Question 7- Scotland is too far away from the centre of Europe to prosper

False. Iceland with a population of 400,000, is situated far to the north by the artic circle yet has the third highest standard of living in Europe. Has few natural resources expect for fish yet runs a balance of payments surplus. Iceland also has the highest number of university graduates per head of population in the world.

False. Scotland is one of Europes top 10 financial centres, supporting employment for in the region of 200,000 thousand people. Financial Services accounts for 8% of Scotland's GDP and generates more than £20 billion annually for the economy. Scotland is now reckoned to be the 9th leading global finacial centre.

Question 9 - Scotland does not have the financial expertise to run its own affairs
