Ruki, were you a DISORDER kind of kid from the time you were little?
When I was small, I was a POP kid. That being said, I always pissed off my parents. Since they would definitely beat me if I was disobedient, they were scary.

Because "KAMINARI Oyaji" isn’t around anymore, when I heard you say that, I was conversely surprised that you had "that kind of father".
I wonder about that? At any rate, since I was small, I only had the image of "scary" regarding my parents. THUNDER father to THUNDER mother. Discipline at home was very strict.

To that extent, could it be said that you were a naughty kid?
In those days I didn’t see it as being naughty. Anyway, I seemed to be very noisy. I have brother who is 9 years older who lived in the house with us, though. Everything I had in my childhood was my older brother's hand-me-downs. Don’t friends frequently have things like bicycles and so on bought for them? Mine were always my brother’s hand-me-downs, so that was hard for me. In those days it was the trend to have a FAMIKON2, but my parents wouldn’t even buy that....

I wonder why were they so strict?
I was always thinking myself "Why, just me?" Whenever my friends got some thing, if I'd say "but ○○kun or □△kun have it", they’d get angry, anyway. Thanks to that, even now, I still dislike FAMIKON.

So when your parents were strict like that what did you do to get away from it?
Recently, I looked over my grade school graduation album, I even wrote "my future dream is to become a manga artist", I loved drawing so much.

Did you also study in that direction?
I studied something else. What I did those days was calligraphy and abacus, and swimming school at a private institution. My parents wanted to raise a good kid or something.

But in grade school, I thought that everyone goes to a private school.
As for that, there really weren't many around me. Therefore, even when school ended I still had to study; I really hated that. Anyway, even after I finished at home, I had too much to do, and I hated that so I'd skip school. And when I'd do that I'd piss them off again.... Especially during summer break and so on, people usually just enjoy themselves, right? But in my case, I was always naughty and got grounded during summer holidays, so I always had to stay in the house.....

Saying that you were naughty, what kind of things did you do, specifically?
I used to skip lessons, and I got bad grades. And so I frequently got grounded. Even so, I didn't want to study, so I always ended up choosing to be grounded. In outline, because my parents always kept a close eye on me when they were around, I used to sit at my desk, but I'd be reading the manga I put in my drawer, and when they came to check up on me I used to try and hide it and pretend I was only working. Since then, I’m pretty sly (laugh)

So, tutoring school was nothing but a place of agony for you, right?
But that tutoring school, is it different from a normal school or something? It’s just a gathering of naughty kids. So it was common sense that we didn't listen to what the teacher would say. Because I was always reading the mangas I brought.

In summer holidays, what did you do at home?
Because my parents went to work during daytime, that was free time. So in the mornings, I’d watch anime or the summer shows. But, before my parents returned, I was made to complete drills. They always hid my parents' answer page somewhere. When they were gone I'd look for it and copy it, and write a similar answer to create an alibi. Anyway for the drills, I copied the answers everyday.
