Been bumming around Wellington for a few years now, causing havoc and making dramas on the scene. After an attempt of suburban life in stunning Kio Bay with Rusty and our beautiful LOLcat, who is NOT a ginga, but rather fanta-blonde, we moved back to the city (leaving LOLcat who wasn't actually ours anyway). Now a Senior Comms Advisor in a large government department and saving for a jaunt around Asia in may. Frequent Brisbane and the Gold Coast at least twice a year, sometimes more, and lloved Samoa. Planning to head over to Argentina, Chile & Uruguay next year, followed by a stint of aid work in Armenia - then who knows? However if Steps reunite for a tour all plans are dropped and I will follow them around...

- One Tree Hill being cancelled, arachnids, and fundie God-squaders all tie for first place. Actually pretty much all people scare me. Being in NZ when I'm 25 used to frighten me, however I dealt with it, but if I'm still here at 30, well that's another story...

- sleeping, reading well-written fics, speaking Spanish competently, lounging about in the sun, hanging with my hot friends (and even the un-hot ones) and watching Sabrina or trashy 80s power soaps.

It's with great sadness today that I learnt Estelle Getty, who played Sophia Petrillo on The Golden Girls, passed away aged 84.
While many dismiss sitcoms, The Golden Girls was an amazing show well ahead of its time tackling topics that were not frequently aired on TV in the 1980s. These included: the coming out of Blanche's brother and his gay marriage, menopause, gun control, impotence, drug addiction, safe sex, interracial marriage, homophobia, Organ donation, domestic violence, problem gambling, suicide, cross-dressing, euthanasia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, veganism, artificial insemination, immigration, sexual harassment, , and senility. Perhaps the most controversial episode involved Rose getting tested for HIV years after receiving an untested blood transfusion.
Sophie was the eldest, playing Dorothy's mother - even though Bea Arthur (Dorothy) was a year younger than Estelle. She had suffered a massive stroke, which, on more than one occasion, was said to have destroyed the part of her brain that acted as a censor resulting in humorous, and often shocking, frankness and a general lack of inhibition.
More than anything though, the Golden Girls made me realising that growing old isn't necessarily going to be a bad thing; that with good friends around you it will be an incredible journey.
Goodbye Estelle. I hope there's some good linguine in that big Sicily in the sky!
