Cars swerve out of control, horses throw their riders, motorcycles uncontrollable and ponies with carts veer off the road. Cyclists have reported their handle bars being suddenly out of control making the rider fall or hit ditches.

Even on summer days you can get the feeling of fear and anxiety.

Locals felt that something was happening but no-one really knew what! Engineers were called to assess the ordinary moor land road. It was said that “there were too many ups-downs and convexity on the upper surface of the road”. The road was resurfaced. But for some the fear of being pushed off the road still exists. Unfortunately there were fatalities and others have lived to tell their tale.

Daily Mail Oct 14th 1921, a writer T Gifford tells of automobile accidents at a point in a Dartmoor road. This road is the B3212 between Postbridge and Two Bridges. Very localised.

Story told by Gifford is that in June 1921, a medical doctor from Princetown Prison was riding his motorcycle with side car. On board in the side car was his two children. Along the B3212 road he shouted to his children to jump off and then his motorcycle ran out of control and crashed. The medical officer unfortunately died and the children survived.. Later in the Daily Mail Oct 17th it was reported the prison Medical officers name was Dr E.H.Helby.

Several weeks later it’s said that “a Motor Coach crashed throwing several of it’s passengers out, onto the moor land road“.

26th August 1921 an army officer was riding his motorcycle along the very same stretch of road. He survived the accident reported saying “there was a feeling of invisible hands holding onto his handlebars forcing him to swerve and crash”. The story made headline news in the London Sunday Express.
Another report of a person being thrown from his motor cycle only to remember nothing until he regained consciousness at a near by cottage.. Only to be told of his ordeal.

This is the point when investigators were sent to follow up these incidents. The engineers agreed the talk was nonsense and felt problems were with the road or persons drinking ales, then travelling home intoxicated.

However 3 years later a couple staying in a caravan quite close to the said spot Power Mills, were given an encounter with the hairy hands. The wife awoke to a clawing sound outside the caravan. On looking she saw a hand scratching at the glass and sensed something evil. She apparently got to her knees, made the sign of the cross and the hand vanished away. The couple vowel never to stay in the area again.

So there has been no recent hairy hand incidents to record. The area is steeped in history, being that there are Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements on the moor. Some believe it to be a haunting of some poor accident victim whom had lost their life on the road. Or possibly the sense of trepidation and eerie feel of the moor land.

Still be sure to have steady hold when encountering the B3212.

October 10.30pm. Bodmin Gaol was the venue. When I arrived most people were in the bar area seated at tables. I found Shawn but Angie hadn’t arrived yet. We were told that we all should be entering the gaol at about 11pm. Martyn took us in to the gaol. It was in total darkness, not normal. There was another group being taken around. So our torches were on straight away. We were taken to Base a room with seating tables & bathroom facilities. This is where we can also get refreshment of Tea/coffee through the night. Martyn & Sonia introduced themselves.Brief tour and history of the Gaol. Taken to Front gate, exercise yard, execution shed where Giovanni Valeri was hanged in 1901 and then to the outside derelict building of the Naval Wing. Back inside to the Long room and other parts of building. It was soon 12am and a quick jaunt back to base before we go off again. At this point I wish I’d written down the rest of the night cause I can vaguely remember where we went first. I decided to take my handy cam on a tripod with me. I thought that I could let if film everything whist doing the energy workshop and vigils, we might catch something. I set it up about 5 meters away from the group. Our energy Workshop was in the Long room, everyone gathered in a circle. Chilled & quiet we held out our hands building our energies. The group were also show how to do Yes/no body dowsing.
All ready we left for the Naval Prison Wing. Very cold outside on entering the Naval Wing it seemed quite light, but soon it went darker. The group huddled together whilst Medium Sonia stood at the doorway. She had sensed a man standing behind her in a cell. The whole group was in awe.. Angie, Shawn & myself stood to the near back of the prison. Behind us we heard lots of shuffle sounds coming from both the left & right cells. We could not investigate because it was behind an out of bounds gate. Extreme cold spots formed about us. Far colder than the night air. We mentioned that whilst Sonia was talking to the group we heard more sounds. Shawn was then told he had someone standing behind him a man said to be 6ft tall. Shawn scurried about with his EMF reader but had nothing. Interesting!! The group seemed to break up here, no-one was standing in a huddle any longer.
Next visit was the basement. Unfortunately I felt that having everyone in the group all go to the basement was just too much. It’s not a huge space and it was full by the time we entered. I had my handy cam on for part of the vigil. Martyn transformed and from what I couldn’t see but heard a lady was particularly made very nervous and had to leave the room. A mother came through to Sonia. Although the room was filled with various scents, one continued to distract the audience. Mints were smelt, sounds of muffled voices and movement came from the floors above. Myself, Donna and Martyn heard this. We were stood near the base of the stairs. At one point I thought it sounded like someone had slipped on the stairs but luckily it was the door shutting. Still I’m not sure that‘s true, as I heard the door being shut later that night and it sounded different to me. Whilst stood at the stairs Martyn’s face seemed to morph and disappear. I was looking at him all the time, so strange. Still the basement proved to be a daunting place. For some reason. When the torches were lit, the group had been split down the middle and were standing in two lines. We had formed Queues. That was different, why did we move?. Cold blasts of air drifted through the group, maybe it was splitting us apart.
I took my Video recorder back to base, kind of got fed up lugging it about. We all regrouped again in the long room. At the top end Martyn transformed again into a person named George. His stance changed to drooped arms and hunched back. His voice completely different. If I stared hard enough his face was even like an old man. Sonia was conducting a chat with him asking George questions. George didn’t like women,
