SYP Weekend.
Big sitting, many pupils, staff. Consultation, Cost concern. Youth Parliament were asked to start sending their agenda in advance. Tying in SYP and Youth Council/For is important.
Regular emails from MSYP’s are suggested.
Debate- Should the Voting Age Be Reduced to 16?
We are to decide individually, and to separate to debate.
Discussion before floor debate.
Speakers stand and debate starts.
Format is now changed, Status Quo, Change to 16, Change to 18.
Explanation of choices.
Status Quo-its easier, it seems to work, most aren’t bothered
16’s - why make you pay taxes when you can’t vote? The vast majority will not vote, but we should give those informed the opportunity.
18’s- Tax is the biggest issue.
Vote is made.
1. Status Quo or moving all of the restrictions and privileges to the same age?
2. 16, 18,17 or as is?
6 voted for the Status Quo, 7 for changing to 16 years old, 3 for 17, 1 for 18 and 1 unspecified for moving.
Therefore, by the minority, our general voice is that we believe we should move the age to 16.
Spirit of Youth 2010.
We are being given a role in SoY 2010. An overseeing role. We need a task force. Applications, finding awards ect. Laura will meet with James Allan. By then we will have the youth councils very own task force to work on this.
