I don't know; sure, with the benefit of hindsight it looks pretty awful! But if it's all you ever know, I guess that life must have had it's highlights too. It's important to remember that a lot of what we know now is based upon court records and the like, so of course it's going to seem a lot more dangerous and fast paced than your average well to do merchant's life. I guess the equivalent would be if, in 500 years time, the bulk of sources on the 21st C were women's gossip mags, ha ha!
