A Death Note is a book held by a Shinigami which has the power to kill people if certain conditions are met. There is a total of 66 of rules that go along with the Death Note.

How to Use It I
• The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
• This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
• If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject's name, it will happen.
• If the cause of death is not specified, the subject will simply die of a heart attack.
• After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

How to Use It II
• This note shall become the property of the human world, once it touches the ground of (arrives in) the human world.
• The owner of the note can recognize the image and voice of its origianl owner, i.e. a god of death.
• The human who uses this note can neither go to Heaven nor Hell.

How to Use It III
• If the time of death is written within 40 seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack, the time of death can be manipulated, and the time can go into effect within 40 seconds after writing the name.
• The human who touches the Death Note can recognize the image and voice of its original owner, a god of death, even if the human is not the owner of the note.

How to Use It IV
• The person in possession of the Death Note is possessed by a god of death, its original owner, until they die.
• If a human uses the note, a god of death usually appears in front of him/her within 39 days after he/she uses the note.
• Gods of death, the original owners of the Death Note, do not do, in principle, anything which will help of prevent the deaths in the note.
• A god of death has no obligation to completely explain how to use the note or rules which will apply to the human who owns it.

How to Use It V
• A god of death can extend his life by putting human names on the note, but humans cannot.
• A person can shorten his or her own life by using the note.
• The human who becomes the owner of the Death Note can, in exchance of half of his/her remaining life, get the eyeballs of the god of death which will enable him/her to see a human's name and remaining lifetime when looking through them.
• A god of death cannot be killed even if stabbed in his heart with a knife or shot in the head with a gun. However, there are ways to kill a god of death, which are not generally known to the gods of death.

How to Use It VI
• The conditions for death will not be realied unless it is physically possible for that human or it is reasonably assumed to be carried out by that human.
• The specific scope of the condition for death is not known to the gods of death, either. So, you must examine and find out.

How to Use It VII
• One page taken from the Death Note, or even a fragment of the page, contains the full effects of the note.
• The instrument to write with can be anything. (e.g. cosmetics, blood, etc) as long as it can write directly onto the note and remains as legible letters.
• Even the original owners of Death note, gods of death, do not know much about the note.

How to Use It VIII
• You may also write the cause and/or details of death prior to fillng in the name of the individual. Be sure to insert the name in front of the written cause of death. You have about 19 days (according to the human calendar) in order to fill in a name.
• Even if you do not actually possess the Death Note, the effect will be the same if you can recognize the person and his/her name to place in the blank.

How to Use It IX
• The Death Note will not affect those under 780 days old.
• The Death Note will be rendered useless if the victims name is misspelled four times.

　　5、寫下死因時，更會有6分40秒的時間可以記入詳細的死亡情況。
　　死亡筆記最基本的使用方法，也就是讓筆記Power On的規則。有了這五小條說明，新手們就可以上路了。
　 　月在第一話就根據這些規則使用了筆記。我們知道名字的月筆下的第一人是音
 原田九郎（42歲），因殺人後劫持幼稚園被新聞報導，被月好奇地作為筆記
 的試驗 品。而貢獻了自己的生命幫月真正上路的人是澀井丸拓男，一個騷擾女性的街
 頭流氓，也是在這次，月第一次寫上了死因——事故死。

　　6、死亡筆記從落到人間界的那一刻起就屬於人類的東西。
　　7、死亡筆記的持有者可以識別死亡筆記的宿主死神的音貌。
　　8、使用過死亡筆記的人既不能升天堂也不能墮地獄。
　　解釋筆記對使用者的影響和第一話中流克的出現，對月的影響就是——看見流
 克，嚇了一大跳。

　 　其實有了以上兩點規則，大家已經可以使用筆記做各種想做的事情了（呵呵…
 …），但是到此為止，你只是筆記的使用者而已，想做基拉（就是玩轉別人而
 別人又 奈何你不得的筆記使用者）的話，就需要從這裏開始努力學習筆記的技巧性規
 則了。度過了實習期的月，開始發揮在這條規則上的天賦。
　　第六話《操縱》，月開始利用罪犯的死，來向L傳達資訊，利用各種奇奇怪怪
 的臨終留言，擾亂警方的視聽。但月真正Step by Step地告訴我們這條規則的使用方法，是在第七話，一起操縱下的公共汽
 車劫持案。

　　11、只要持有死亡筆記，那麼會被宿主死神一直憑依到死為止。
　　12、宿主死神一般會在人類使用死亡筆記後的39天以內現身。
　　13、宿主死神原則上不給筆記使用者幫助或阻礙。
　　14、死神無義務向死亡筆記持有者說明有關死亡筆記的一切規則。

　　15、死神可以通過在死亡筆記上寫名字延長自己的壽命，但人類卻不能。
　　16、自己可以在死亡筆記上寫自己的名字以縮短本人的壽命。
　　17、死亡筆記的持有者可以用自己剩下壽命的一半跟死神交換一雙可以一看
 到人的容貌就知道其姓名和壽命的死神眼。
　　18、即使用刀或槍攻擊死神的腦袋以及心臟也不能傷害到死神。不過也有一
 個極少數死神才知道的殺死死神的方法。
　　在這裏，我們得知了筆記的一項增值服務——死神眼睛。流克在第六話向月提
 出，本來為了提高月對服務的滿意度，結果因為目標市場不對（月想要死神翅
 膀）而告吹。
　　另外，我們知道了死神原來是靠人養著的，死神的工作就是寫筆記，由人類付
 給他們壽命作報酬。
　　開始出現後面故事的伏筆，也就是死神也是

Light Yagami
The main character of Death Note, Light is a brilliant but bored 17-year old student. When he finds the Death Note dropped in the human world by Ryuk, a Shinigami, he decides to use it to kill all criminals, his ultimate goal being to cleanse the world of evil to create a utopia and to be the God of this new world. He called himself Justice.


L
L is the world's top-rated detective, tasked with tracking down and arresting Kira, and Light's nemesis. His disheveled appearance masks his great powers of deduction and insight. L has many quirks, such as sitting in an odd manner and snacking on sweets in the middle of meetings. He often takes drastic strategies to confuse and force his opponents, and on several occasions he has willingly disclosed several of his weaknesses to Kira at the risk of his own life in the hopes that he would lure him into a trap.



Misa Amane
A girl with an immense crush on Kira. She is a popular idol in Japan, and tends to wear clothing in many different styles, depending on what she is doing. She is immature and has a tendency to refer to herself in the third person (calling herself "Misa-Misa") in an attempt to be cute. Misa is totally devoted to Light, and she once said that she loved him "at first sight". Light, however, only views her as an asset to his plans because of her Death Note and her "Shinigami Eyes" (that she obtained at the cost of half of her remaining life span). These "Shinigami Eyes" give Misa the ability to know people's names by looking at their faces, thereby giving Kira an edge in his battle against his enemies. Misa read in the newspapers that the murderer of her family was punished by Kira, explaining her total devotion to him, regardless of whether she thinks of his actions as good or evil.

Mello

Mello was an orphan who grew up with Near in Watari's shelter for gifted children. Like Near, Mello was one of the candidates to become L's successor. Similar to L's fondness for sweets, he is often seen eating bars of chocolate, perhaps in trying to be more like L. Contrary to Near and L, Mello, although quite intelligent, often lets his emotions get the better of him.

Near

Near was a primary candidate to become L's successor and calls himself N during the course of his investigations. He too shares a similarity to L: much like L played with things such as sugar cubes and forks, Near is seen playing with toys and his hair throughout the series. He offered to join forces with Mello to fight Kira. When Mello turned down his offer, he gained the support of the US government and formed the Secret Provision for Kira (.

藝人，是青少年雜誌的模特兒。偶然從死神雷姆手中撿到了筆記本，為了要和
 KIRA接觸而從關西跑到東京，以冒牌的「KIRA」身分引起事件。因感
 激KIRA制裁殺害她父母的強盜而跟KIRA---也就是夜神月接觸。
