Dan's Movie Reviews: Roadhouse
I can't resist a good (that is to say bad) B-movie, and they don't come much B-ier than Roadhouse! Patrick Swayze stars as Dalton, the chain smoking, tai chai pracitising, philosophy majoring bouncer; an utter paradox of a man, and possibly one of the silliest and most unconvincing characters in movie history, but is still "the best damn cooler (head bouncer) in the business". Dalton is called in to clean up the Double Deuce, a rowdy bar in Jasper, Missiouri. This bar is the kind of place where they “sweep up the eyeballs after closing time”. Roadhouse is the epitome of the 1980s, so expect: afro-mullets, cheesy one-liners, monster trucks, a seemingly endless succession of hilariously inept slack-jawed henchmen, huge explosions, naked women, at least 5 solid bar brawls, throats ripped out with bare hands, and even a polar bear! The movie is also bursting with homoerotisiscm and a brand of machismo only found in 80s action movies! The bad guy comes in the form in Ben Gezzara, who hams up the role of the villian like a kid in a candy store, and the older, wiser, 'cooler' who taught Dalton everything he knows is played by Sam Elliot, possibly the coolest actor ever! The excellent soundtrack is provided by the late, mighty Jeff Healey and fits the movie really well. Roadhouse is beyond ridiculous, it’s dumb, it’s silly, the plot is wafer thin, the acting little better, yet it is one of my all-time favourites! It’s exactly the type of movie they just don’t make anymore. If it was any other movie I would have to point out the 100 or so ways in which it doesn’t make sense, but you just can’t stay mad at Roadhouse. When you see Dalton employing his martial-arts expertise against dimwitted thugs in tight jeans while glasses are being hurled in every direction, you realise there can’t be many finer sights in a motion picture. So forget about using your brain to try and make sense of it, get a group of friends together, a case of beer, don’t take it even slightly seriously and enjoy!

Doing Civil Engineering in NUIG, in third year at the moment... I'm living with five of the coolest people you could ever wish to meet so that makes putting up with college shit a lot easier......by the way for an easy and entertaining way to discover what our living conditions are like, watch 'The Money Pit' starring Tom Hanks. our list of things wrong wit the house goes on and on; sneezing or coughing in the sitting room is not welcome as it upsets our (free) tv cable reception, our oil tank is protected by an upside-down paint can, the mice between the floors play some rather evil mind games with us, the radiators can be used as a cheap and efficient refridgeration system as they are colder than almost everything else in the house......but, we're happy. after all, isn't that what really matters?0 komentarze 632 dni

I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my
husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't gone more than a
mile down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a
halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I
couldn't believe my eyes. He was in the bedroom with a neighbor lady
making mad passionate love to her. I am 32, my husband is 34 and we have
been married for twelve years. When I confronted him, he broke down and
admitted that he'd been having an affair for the past six months.
I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six
months ago and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and
worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum
he has become increasingly distant. I don't feel I can get through to him
anymore.

Dear Sheila:
A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a
variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no
debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the jubilee clips holding
the vacuum pipes onto the inlet manifold. If none of these approaches
solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty,
causing low delivery pressure to the carburetor float chamber.
