- I'm a republican and passed High Cert in Advocacy Studies at I.T. Sligo. I have been a member of Sinn Fein since August 07. I am The Equality Officer for Hartely Mullins Meehan Cumann.
Hartely Mullins Meehan Cumann official launch was a major success on Friday 7th March at Gahan's Public House, Tinnahinch, Graiguenamanagh, Co Carlow.
Sinn Féin Prtesident Gerry Adams MP MLA gave the oration at the funeral of Martin Meehan
"This oration is in solidarity with Briege, and Bronagh, Kevin, Martin óg, Mary and Jacqueline.
It is in solidarity with his 12 grandchildren and the wider Meehan family circle.
I also want to express our condolences and sympathy to another family, of another republican and old friend, Fra Coogan. To Marie and her clan we extend our sympathy and solidarity.
I never thought I would be standing here today speaking at the grave of Martin Meehan.

Government flood relief package a pittance – Ferris

Sinn Féin Environment Spokesperson Martin Ferris TD has described the €10million package promised by the Government for humanitarian flood relief as a pittance compared to what is required.
Deputy Ferris said many thousands of people affected by the floods will not see any aid as a result of the Government’s miserly relief package.
Speaking today Deputy Ferris said:
“The €10million humanitarian relief package is a pittance compared to what is required. As a result of this Government’s miserly package many thousands of families will not receive any relief with whole areas such as the midlands not likely to see any at all.
“The fact is that this package is a token gesture. Considering that the Government can find €54billion to bail out a bunch of corrupt bankers this €10million commitment for thousands of people who have lost their homes and livelihoods is a shameful gesture.
“The Government needs to get real and come back with a package that can properly help those affected by this disaster.
“I want to commend the emergency services and those public sector workers who postponed yesterday’s strike action to continue helping in the effected areas.”

Ó Snodaigh backs St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal
November 23, 2009
Responding to the St Vincent De Paul’s annual Christmas appeal today Sinn Fein’s Social and Family affairs Spokesperson Angus Ó Snodaigh has called for the Christmas bonus to be returned as it will put families under pressure this Christmas.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, “Families will feel under pressure this Christmas without their Christmas bonuses and will be forced into the hands of ruthless money lenders. Already, as the St. Vincent de Paul highlighted today, there has been a 30% increase in requests for help as families are struggling to cope.
“Sinn Féin has highlighted this issue before as we feel it’s very important to protect those on social welfare this Christmas. There are others ways to cut spending in the budget without interfering with the Christmas bonuses or other social welfare payments.
“Sinn Féin has highlighted in our pre budget submission how the €4billion gap in public spending can be made with resorting to targeting social welfare or public spending.”

Ó Snodaigh calls for full investigation into alleged Bord Gáis poaching of customers from ESB

Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has called for a full investigation into reports that sales representatives from Bord Gáis have been poaching customers from the ESB.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh was speaking today after hearing reports that at least one sales rep from An Bord Gáis has been asking customers to sign a form under the false pretence that it simply states that he called to the door. However, it has been revealed that the form in question is actually a confirmation of the customer’s wish to switch to the Bord Gáis service.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:
“There must be a full investigation into the reports of customer poaching on the part of An Bord Gáis to ensure that this practice is not taking place up and down the Country. Bord Gáis has been publicly bragging about the numbers of people switching to their service in recent weeks. We need to ensure that their figures have not been boosted by fraudulent practices.
“The fact that we have two semi-state companies competing with each other is a ludicrous situation resulting from the privatisation policies of successive Fianna Fáil led Governments.
“The Government must seriously consider re-establishing a single, fully public state energy provider to ensure the best possible service to all the people at the best possible value for money.”

If anything matters to you its the welfare of weaker people, you are always worried about people less fortunate than you. When someone says something and you do not agree you will let them know. when you get an idea you see it through to the very end. Although this is not a bad thing it can be sometimes.
On Easter Monday, 24th April, he led the Irish Citizens Army from Liberty Hall to the General Post Office and commanded military operations there throughout the week of Easter 1916. He was wounded once in the forearm by a bullet but hid his wound from his men. Until he was later shot again in the ankle and he could no longer command . He spent the rest of the week on a bed but still gave orders to his men . When the GPO became to unstable to remain in he was lifted out of the GPO on a stretcher . With his men around him forming a human shield from the machine gun bullets and taken to O`Moore St. After Pearse surrendered the GPO connolly was arrested and later executed sitting in a chair as he was too badly injured to stand . As a priest tried to pray over him he asked him instead to pray for the men who were about to execute him
