We are moving back to Ireland, we should be arriving on the 26th if everything goes according to plan

Our little girl Aisling was born one month and one day ago (9th of January), it was tough taking care of her for the first few weeks but now things have gotten a lot better. She sometimes sleeps for up to 5 hours at a time and she seems to have less wind problems which means less crying I have finished my thesis and am waiting for the english teacher to finish going through it, I will then have to make some changes because I know she will have problems with it, how do I know this? because my supervisor told me when he handed it into her that it was all supposed to be in passive voice why he does shit like this (giving my information after I need it) I don't know. We have had major problems with registering Aislings birth. To save time I'm just going to copy and paste my description of the situation from an email I just sent a local politician:

My wife and I are studying in Savonia-amk in Kuopio, we were both (up until a week or two ago) temporary residents. We were married last september in China. In the Irish system you don't register a marriage unless it was in Ireland, so in our case all we do is present our certificate when needed. Unfortunately we found out that finland is not the same, because China is not a signatory of the Hague convention the Finnish magistratti will not accept the stamped (and in chinese eyes) legalized certificate of our marriage without a stamp from the Finnish consulate in china. The consulate will not stamp anything for someone who is not a finnish resident. Please note I have been living and studying in Finland since May 2004 and my wife since September 2004.

When our daughter was born on the 9th of January we again thought it would be similar to the Irish way of doing things where the mother is asked what names should be on the childs birth certificate. Because we were temporary residents the magistratti refused to allow us to name our child, further more they will not allow me to claim the child. We changed to permanent residence here but this wasn't good enough. The magistratti here have said they will only register our daughters name if she has a passport, and of course how does one get a passport without a birth certificate with their name on it?

Luckily for us this has happened to other Irish people living here so the Irish embassy has decided to have me and my wife make out affidavits stating that our daughter is our daughter and that her name is Aisling. We have also sent our marriage cert to china to be legalized by the finnish consulate so that my name can be in the population registrar as Aislings father. Our biggest fear was that Aisling will not be given a birth certificate from the magistratti, which is something that would cause us huge problems should we ever go back to Ireland, thankfully it looks like the finnish system doesn't really "do" birthcerts or at least not the kind of birth certs Ireland or the UK do. We were told that in finland a birthcert is simply an extract of the population register with birth details. There is also the possibility that the magistratti will not recognise that our marriage had taken place months before Aisling was born because it has not been registered in the finnish system, this is curious because it means they should not recognize any chinese persons marriage when they move to Finland.

So right now we are waiting for the affidavits to be drawn up and for our marriage certificate to be sent back from china, we will then get a passport for Aisling and hopefully then we will be able to register her name.

The most important thing for us is for her to have a registered name and a birth certificate with that name and parents name on it. We are not trying to get her finnish citizenship (she is Irish as far as we and the Irish law are concerned), we are not looking for welfare payments or handouts or "to get anything out of your welfare system" for her.
