So, basically, my country is slowly killing itself it seems. The banks are still haemorraging money, our politicians are lost, and nobody knows what way to turn. It seems that with the Lisbon treaty finally passed, that people realise it's not the magic cure the pro-treaty side seemed to be advertising. Any plans introduced just don't seem to be working. There was a plan known as NAMA (National Asset Management Agency), where it would pay for bank loans, but where will the cost of this inevitably come from? The Taxpayer. And now the government claims it wont "tax it's way out of recession"? Now, granted, being rather young, at the age of 17, and with my last year of school facing me, which I need to prepare for, I haven't been able to watch these events as well as I would like, but the fact is, no matter what happens here, it's going to get a hell of a lot worse it seems. Why can't we get compotent politicians? The recession may affect the entire world, but if Ireland hadn't relied so much on the building industry, put so much money into it, and, it seems, thought it would never have ended, we might not be in such a deep hole. And we are continually punished. It's common knowledge, thanks to many reporters, that politicians are taking holidays, expenses, and so many other things, all at taxpaying expense. They talk about pay-cuts, but it's not apparent that they suffer from these cuts like we do. I wish I could say there was something I can do, but, let's be honest, I can't. I'm just lost in the myriad that is Irish politics these days.
