Über mich

Motto
We're special too!!!
Ich über mich
A place for parents of Autistic kids n teens to unite and continue to raise awareness into the Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
A place where we can exchange advice on surviving as a "special" parent or just to share our experiences etc.

Hi, we are Sara & Des. Our son is 15. He has a rare form of Autism.
Autistic kids are unique!
As parents we are special...so much more than the average mum or dad.
Only we can understand the life of a child with special needs and how to nurture them and motivate them.

Life is hell sometimes...BUT we would'nt change our son!!!
He is what he is...all i wish is that other's accept him for who he is and not expect to behave and exist like other "normal" teenagers!
Our son has M.C.D.D.= Multiple Complex Developmental Disorder.
This is a rare form of Autism displaying traits of Asperger's syndrome, A.D.H.D and P.D.D.
DIFFERENT IS COOL....OK?

Well today we got confirmation of Dan's Entry level certificate for Maths.
He has gained an entry level 3!!!
Entry 3 is the highest level of award!

Daniel was put forward to take this examination by his school due to his high scores in Maths & he is the first ever pupil at Littlegreen School to do this exam!
The OCR Recognising Acheivement examining board tell me that this exam is equivalent to a GCSE.
Aged 14 & sitting this paper 2 years early is an excellent achievement & we're very proud of Dan!

Pretty good for a child on the Autistic Spectrum...just proves how intelligent & gifted some of them really are!:D

    WELL DONE SON!

  • MY SON...

As i saw my newborn son
i knew he'd be my only one.
Dreams and plans we began to make,
not knowing that soon something would take.
    Our beautiful little boy
    Mummy's love and daddy's joy!
Wasn't what he appeared to be,
one day we would find the truth and greive.
This little lad, we'd sit and wonder
What it was...we'd think and ponder.
Why was he so different today?
Would this 'bad' thing go away?
He didn't mean to misbehave i know,
but where did our ray of sunshine go?
    He changed virtually over night,
we didn't know we were in for a fight!

When we were told he wasn't 'alright',
we asked ourselves why us? and cried all night!
It felt like my dreams had been stole
I was no longer in control.
The son we had plans for now was gone!
We grieved for him - it had to be done.
Then one day acceptance at last was due,
This IS my son now, he's different it's true.
I will love him and take care of him just as before,
He needs me more than ever of that i'm so sure!
To show him the way to be whom he is,
a special kind of kid who is AUTISTIC.

He's different to your son coz he has special needs,
who know's where his future life will lead?
But he's not an idiot or a freak!
He's my special child and he's unique!
So don't judge a book by it's cover...
that kid may have some disorder or other!
Take time to learn about kid's health.
Knowledge is power, knowledge is wealth!

Help us to spread the AUTISM word
Help these kids and let them be heard!
Accept them into society now! Today!
Do your bit and feel proud I say!
Let them have a brighter tomorrow,
don't let them suffer anymore sorrow.
They are who they are, no one's the same!
Don't let them hide or feel any shame.

    So, don't stop and stare,
    at that lad over there!
    Don't be such a fool!!!
YES! He's different - but different is COOL!

  • Need to know symptoms of Autism?

Subject: On a Need to Know Basis, Do You Know All You Need To Know!
Body: It is shocking how many people still do not know what Autism is. Please help raise awareness. Please copy and paste this and post it so that you may help to educate people about Autism.

The list of symptoms associated with autism is long and can vary dramatically from person to person. However, here are some common symptoms:

    - Preferring to be alone.
    - May not want to cuddle or be cuddled
    - May not point
    - Abnormal social play or lack of pretend play
    - Not responding to verbal cues; ex.- does not respond to name
    - Difficulty or complete inability to express needs and wants
    - Interaction with others is difficult or non-existent
    - Delay or total lack of speech
    - Repeating back words or phrases
    - Ritualistic behaviors
    - Repetitive body movements (rocking, tip toe walking, hand flapping)
    - Preoccupation with parts of objects such as: lights, spinning objects
    - Possibly aggressive or self-injurious behavior
    - Abnormal response to stimuli (over or under sensitivity)
    - Abnormalities in eating ("pocketing" food, not chewing, issues with certain textures of food)
    - Inappropriate attachment to objects (stick, puzzle piece. paper, ect.)
    - No fear of dangerous situations
    - Unaware of others feelings
    - Inability to socialize
    - Lack of waving/pointing/hugs (social behaviors)

REMEMBER these symptoms are only a guide. Autistic Spectrum Disorders are very complex. Sufferer's are unique. It is not unusal however for a child to show traits of other A.S.D'S too. A.D.H.D. and P.D.D. often go hand in hand with Autism. Also O.C.D too.

    Autism is on the increase.

Autism is growing at an alarming rate. Children with Autism can improve with the appropriate help. If you do not know someone with Autism now you will soon.
This Sentence is shocking but true!!!!

my son's diagnosis is M.C.D.D.= Multiple Complex Develpomental Disorder.
he was finally diagnosed aged 8.
MCDD is a 'rare' form of Autism showing traits of all ASD'S and PDD.
so he has 'mild' Asperger's syndrome, Autism, ADHD etc.
all these together does complicate matters and we are yet to find another MCDD sufferer.

    Remember....Different is COOL.

YOU may think MY child is weird...but he think's you are too!!!

WHY would you wanna be like someone else??? be proud to be unique!

Hiya I'm relaunching the AS Support Group Online website to raise awareness for Aspergers Syndrome. It's a form of Autism. I'm hoping that we can get as many people to visit the site as possible. If you would like to learn about this disorder click on http://www.assupportgrouponline.org It's totally free and we don't require any money from you. Just that you take the time to read and try to understand this disorder.

    Sara Osman von Sara Osman
DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THE TV SHOW KATIE & PETER LAST NIGHT ON SKY?
:O ONLY SOMEONE LIKE KATIE COULD GET AWAY WITH TAKING HER DISABLED SON TO A MEETING & NOT BE EMBARRASSED BY HIS BEHAVIOUR!
HARVEY DISRUPTED THE WHOLE MEETING & THE LOOK ON THE OTHER'S FACES WAS PRICELESS :L BUT KATIE CARRIED ON & ENTERTAINED HER SON INTERUPTING THEM :L
KATIE PRICE IS NOT ASHAMED OF ANYTHING IN HER LIFE & ESPECIALLY NOT ASHAMED OF HER BEAUTIFUL SON HARVEY! :D
HARVEY HAS VARIOUS PROBLEMS & I BELIEVE A FORM OF AUTISM IS INCLUDED. AS A PARENT OF AN AUTISTIC CHILD & ALSO AN AUNT TO 2 OTHERS PERSONALLY I THINK HE HAS A FORM AS RECOGNISE ALOT OF AUTISTIC TRAITS IN HIM!
KATIE THO...SHE'S AN INSPIRATION TO US ALL & I FOR ONE ADMIRED HER LAST NIGHT COZ I KNOW FOR SURE I WOULD NEVER HAVE DARED TAKE MY SON ANYWHERE LIKE THAT. SHE HAS A LOT OF BOTTLE!!!
    WELL DONE KATIE.

hi there. my son, almost 7 now has aspergers syndrome combined with ADHD though we are still working on a definite diagnosis, it makes life very challenging though i love my little man and wouldnt change him for the world. the ADHD means i have to restrict and monitor his diet pretty closely otherwise he becomes uncontrollable (he has a few holes in his bedroom wall) i have also myself, been recently diagnosed with aspergers syndrome, it shed light on my life and why i was the way i was. suddenly everything made sense! the feeling of not being able to fit in, why i didnt like the feel of materials, why a lot of sounds drove me nuts and why i did various other things lol it was a relief in a way that there was an explanation for these things. i didnt do too well at school though now i am about to start a certificate in information technology in about a week as i love computers :) and i cant wait yay

Hi! really, really great group! You probly know all about us by now, cause I've commented on all the polls and bloggs bla bla, but my name's Jennie, I'm almost 40, blind single mum, with 3 teens, Ross is 14 and the youngest, profoundly autistic, diagnosed at 2 and a half. He has limited speach, but it's coming. Behaviour used to be dire, and I mean the worst! doubly incontinent til he was almost ten, mega bowel problems, temper to die for...the works! We moved from London to Wales in 2002 and he regressed even further, cause everything in his life changed, but once he settled, he changed forever! He is accepted in the community he lives in, everyone knows him, main stream kids accept and like him, he's part of the area we live in . . . different really is cool! Am thinking of setting up a bebo page for him, to help share our unique story of double-trouble survival, and help his I.T skills in the process! Happy to share with any parent who needs a chat, my profile's public. xx

hey denise. i don't know if anyone has got back to you about this yet but there is a childrens book called "heaven". i don't know who wrote it but it is about a dog who dies and goes to heaven. it is quite sad but it does explain how when you go to heaven you can't come back. it is available in the childrens section of larger book shops.
