World Youth Day has since been celebrated locally every year and internationally in a different host country every 2-3 years. The elements of that first largely spontaneous gathering in 1984 - of simple home-stay accommodation, the presence of the Holy Year Cross, bishops in discussion with groups of young people, international personalities witnessing to their faith, the Way of the Cross, sacramental Reconciliation and the Eucharist - remain at the heart of each World Youth Day. As does its central call to young people -

"I reaffirm my conviction: youth faces a difficult yet exciting task: changing the underlying mechanisms that promote egotism and repression in the relations between nations, and creating new structures oriented to truth, solidarity and peace." John Paul II, Urbi et Orbi, Rome, Easter 1985.

    Invisible Children have a 3 month Aussie Tour coming up at the beginning of 2009 –
    one month of the tour will be in Sydney itself. The awesome thing about
    Invisible Children is it was all started by young people and is totally set up
    for young people to be involved. I know after WYD we have had a bunch of Youth Groups
    and individual young people that expressed an interest in doing something that
    is Justice focused Invisible Children has some great ways to get involved in
    advocacy, service and fundraising.

    How It Works – There will be a team of IC ROADIES -

    Travelling around OZ for three months with the aim of showing the video that the founders
    made on their African Adventure where they found this story (if you have not
    seen it I can lend it to you), discuss the current situation of the issue and
    talk about how young people in Australia can get involved. After the tour there
    will be an Invisible Children Office set up in Sydney and they will be starting
    all of their programs here and have support for groups and people that are keen
    to start things in their schools/parishes or whatever.

    If you want any more details let me know… and if you know anyone that might
    be interested in hosting a screening or whatever PLZ PLZ give them my contact
    details and I can hook them up with the ROADIE team…

      The FLOCK end-of-year event is here and this year we’re going to make a splash at JAMBEROO ACTION PARK on Saturday 6 December 2008.

      The cost is $40 per person ($30 entry fee and $10 for the transport). Pick up from Good Shepherd Parish 7.00am (you need to be at Good Shepherd by 6.45am) and depart Jamberoo 5.00pm. It’s a 2 hour trip, we should be back about 7.00pm. BYO lunch and snacks.

      Seats are limited, and to keep the Jamberoo discount, payments are needed by Thursday 20 November 2008. Please advise numbers as soon as possible. Holy Spirit Youth will be joining us. Family and friends welcome.

      Thanks to Danielle & Louis our Social Event Coordinators, and to Madalena (Holy Spirit Parish) for organising the transport.

      Hellooooooooooooooo from rainy scotland:D Thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for the parcel. We're very chuffed with them and after wyd a parcel will be heading your way. The younger ones are working on a wee surprise:P I can only begin to imagine the excitement thats in the air in Oz.. The scots all left last nite so will be in Wollongong tomorrow for 5 days then move to Sydney. There will be lots of pics of us wearing our special sydney gear:D Your kindness is smply beautiful and Mass will be offered for all of you:)

      och aye the noo from scotland:D Soooooo exciting for you guys just now-the buzz in Sydney must be fabbydooby!! We're all set or lourdes. Got our passes now so we're well chuffed. Just realised the other night that as we're seeing all the events at least 9 hours later then you guys, then you'll be in the planning stages for the next one while eeryone in Lourdes still waiting for the closing mass - soo heyhey means WYD lasts a wee bitty longer:D :D We leave for Lourdes on the 12th July- cant wait. God bless:)
