- It's a chicken-egg situation
- Ich über mich
- Hi everyone, my name is David. I used to go to Strathclyde Uni (writing some articles for the sports section of the newspaper when I was enjoying it!), before the workload and stress of doing essays took their toll, and left me degreeless and jobless. Had a couple of jobs, but the motherflippin' credit crunch has sent me back to square one, so I'm doing voluntary work just now. I play cricket for Kelburne, and go to pub quizzes every Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm an officer in the Boys' Brigade, and am still playing football an unhealthy number of times per week lol. Won that Fair Play final with my Sunday team! It ended 0-0 and we won 5-4 on penalties, though I didn't save any of them!
- Music
- The Airborne Toxic Event, Tori Amos, Arcade Fire, Badly Drawn Boy, Beach Boys, Beatles, Beck, Belle & Sebastian, Bjork, Bloc Party, Blur, Bon Iver, Bright Eyes, Jeff Buckley, Kate Bush, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Clash, Coldplay, Collar Up, The Cure, De La Soul, The Dears, Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists, Delays, Doves, Duckworth Lewis Method, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Editors, Eels, Elbow, Fat Freddy's Drop, Flight Of The Conchords, Florence and the Machine, Foo Fighters, Peter Gabriel, Guillemots, Howling Bells, Interpol, The Jam, Kings Of Convenience, Kinks, Willy Mason, Scott Matthews, Maximo Park, Mercury Rev, Midlake, Joni Mitchell, Muse, My Bloody Valentine, Beth Orton, Pavement, Pink Floyd, Portishead, Radiohead, RE
M, Damien Rice, Ride, The Shins, Paul Simon/Simon and Garfunkel, The Smiths, Bruce Springsteen, Starsailor, The Sundays, Super Furry Animals, Supergrass, Talking Heads, Thirteen Senses, Travis, U2, Suzanne Vega, The Verve, Paul Weller, The White Stripes, Stevie Wonder, XTC, Neil Young, Zero 7. - Films
- The Matrix - Not a big fan of sci-fi, but this has enough depth to get the old brain working overtime and three-quarters. And it's quite exciting too. High Fidelity - A great music-based film adapted from the Nick Hornby novel, which features the legend that is Jack Black. There's also a cameo appearance from Bruce Springsteen, who has some words of wisdom for the main character (John Cusack), who is obsessed with Top 5 lists (e.g. Top 5 break-up songs of all time etc.) Garden State - A gem of a film, written and produced by Zach Braff (who plays JD in Scrubs). Brilliantly quirky, it also stars the gorgeous Natalie Portman! Oh, and it also brought the fantastic music of The Shins closer to my attention, so thanks Zach! School Of Rock - Another fine example of the quality of comedy Mr Jack Black can bring to the table, if only we all were taught music in the same surreal way when we were kids, and picked it up as quickly as they did!
- Sports
- Cricket - Warwickshire. Quarter-final and no further specialists this year. Thanks to Ian Salisbury retiring, we couldn't bring back Chris 'shot of the summer' Martin. I'm still crying at night over that. Just joshing, I'm not really. Also follow Scotland and New Zealand, I want one of those Beige Brigade outfits! No Test Match cricket for NZ until January now though. I've hit 6 fifties (and 1 six now!) for Kelburne, but I can't bowl to save myself. Football - Carlisle United. Relegation beckoned, they said it couldn't be achieved... Accrington Stanley - They stayed up relatively comfortably this year for once. Their cricket team won the Lancashire League last year, and Bumble played once, scoring 15. Also like golf, tennis, snooker, rugby, skiing, MotoGP and darts (you can't beat a bit of Bully!)
- Scared Of
- I'm not the biggest fan of wasps (I tend to run away from them every time I see one, even though I've only been stung once!). Apart from that, I don't fear anything whatsoever!
- Happiest When
- Watching Chris Martin batting (it's great entertainment!), listening to Bumble commentating. Being out with friends, playing cricket, playing golf with big Chris, watching DVDs, listening to music and going to pub quizzes. Watching Jeff Stelling on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday (especially his defence of Middlesbrough when it was voted the worst place to live in the UK, and when Hartlepool score through James Brown) or Countdown (how did they manage to snare him?). Also happiest when watching the lovely Daniela Hantuchova playing tennis on TV, which doesn't happen so much now as she unfortunately keeps losing, but she will climb up the rankings once again and win more titles, I'm sure of it!
- TV Shows
- Mainly (American) sitcoms, as I laugh easily. All-time greats are Cheers and Happy Days, with Friends, Frasier and Everybody Loves Raymond getting honourable mentions. At the moment I'm still loving Scrubs. Flight of the Conchords is awesome, especially Murray the rather incompetent band manager. Other great sitcom at the moment is How I Met Your Mother (which Elliot from Scrubs is in). Any show that has a character with the surname Scherbatsky is legen...wait for it...dary! Phoenix Nights was good too. A Question Of Sport and Top Gear are great to watch on Dave, and Mr Bean, Countdown and Fawlty Towers still stand the test of time. Also Father Ted, The IT Crowd and The Big Bang Theory were/are funny. Bullseye, Gladiators and The Crystal Maze from the old school were great. They really should bring back the latter! Oh, and Sky Sports News too; anyone who has seen the awesome Millie Clode will know exactly what I'm talking about!
- Heroes
- Sachin Tendulkar (not only a great batsman, but a superb role model too.), Richie Benaud and Dickie Bird have served cricket very well. Sky Sports' finest David Lloyd (a.k.a. Bumble) is hilarious, and he comes from Accrington! Also graced Countdown's Dictionary Corner recently lol. Peter Schmeichel was a legendary goalkeeper. I also like Jimmy White, Steve Davis, and Bobby George, real characters of snooker and darts respectively. Jim Bowen and Murray Walker were fantastic too. Jack Black, Jim Carrey, Peter Kay, Rhys Darby, Rowan Atkinson and Steve Coogan are very funny. Bruce Springsteen, Ray Davies, Kate Bush, Paul Weller and Paul Simon are my musical heroes. Saving the best until last - my favourite cricketer New Zealand's Chris Martin, the worst batsman in international cricket with an average of just over 2. However, he did hit the 'shot of the summer' in which he placed Harbhajan back over his head for four. It was legendary...

I'm great, how are you? You graduated from uni or working just now? I can't find anything at the moment, just doing the occasional bit of voluntary work for Erskine Hospital, so I've got to get around the old credit crunch soon! I'm still playing cricket and football, but I broke my nose last month, so I'm just playing cricket for the next couple of weeks. I'm playing for Erskine at the moment with Shaiz, and won a Fair Play final with my Sunday team last month lol!
Alrite Davie Hero! Hows things mate? What you been up to since the Inter Yer Ma glory era?!
Alright Davie boy.
