“Between the twin winds, Gweedore and Gweebara there is the Rosses”

The Rosses, meaning the headlands, was an emigration bar formerly owned by a famous musical family called Molloys. The bar was a last opportunity for Donegal emigrates to have a drink and dance before boarding the boats for New York and Boston.

The bar was called Molloys but Michael Lynch who recognised its obvious links with that area of Donegal changed the name to The Rosses.

Michael briefly changed its name to New Rosses but this could have lead to confusion with New Rosses in Wexford so the bar name was changed back to The Rosses by Patricia and Charlie Conaghan who owned the bar until 1993.

The Doherty family took over in 1993 and changed the name to Bound for Boston after extensively refurbishing the premises.

The downstairs bar is an expression of an Irish bar while the first floor with its full size American Pool tables is designed to resemble American environs all symbolic of the journey made by thousands of Irish people who travelled to build America via this fine hostelry.
