  • Physical and Sensory Disabilities...things its good to know

    these are a few dos and donts from a campaign i did recently with Anne Bradshaw (HSE) to help Cashel achieve Gold Star Status


    When talking to a person using a wheelchair for more than a few minutes, use a chair when possible, it’s good to be at the same eye level as the person you are talking to.

    Some people have a tendency to talk louder and slower to people with disabilities – not all people with disabilities are hard of hearing!!!

    It’s okay to ask people with disabilities what you can do to help or assist them

    Look directly at the person with a disability when talking to them – rather than speaking through a companion they may have with them

    Never park on footpaths even if it’s only for “2 minutes” and never use accessible parking spaces without displaying a pass!!

    When guide dogs are at work – don’t distract them, it’s important not to not play with them or feed them without the permission of their owner.

    Try to establish a good means of communicating with a person with hearing loss – communication methods include sign language, lip-reading, Lámh or writing.

  • PET PEEVES.....

    i have decided to start a pet peeves blog!!! tings that bug me on a day to day basis that i want to rant about, please add your own n i will include the best into my blog!!

    PET PEEVE 1:

    Doctors, astronauts, and plumbers need training to do their jobs, but anyone with a computer is a graphic designer...wise words!!! n ya no what wrecks my head even more??? microsoft word!!!! im gonna start a get rid of microsoft word campaign, clipart and wordart do not count as good design methods people!!! nor as a means of emailing photos or logos (unless u want a pixelated ball of shite as ur corporate image!!!) in a perfect world i will design with vector logos and high res images, and a passive client who will appreciate what i do and not add shadows, bigger fonts, fill any space and most important of all not use blue n yellow (cuz ur a local tipp company, its been done...believe it or not!!!) ok venting over!!! i love graphic design tho!!! for every stressful design there is one that comes out just great!! i live for that one alone.... and now ADDING to that...Microsoft Paint is NOT i repeat NOT a design program!!!! just back away from the PCs people....QUICKLY!!!

    PET PEEVE 2:

    TIMEWASTERS, why send me a text file to spend hours laying out in a design if its NOT the final draft???? thats THREE hours of fidgety text layouts, deleting returns and shaping, and leading down the drain!!!!

    PET PEEVE 3:

    people that reverse out of car spaces without even a glance behind them and nearly going straight into you, its lucky minis have savage brakes!!!!! but seriously people MIRRORS arent just there for decoration like!!!!

    PET PEEVE 4:

    PEOPLE MISUSING DISABLED PARKING!!! even if it is "just for two mins" dont do it, i mean appreciate the fact that you are able to walk the extra few yards if that means parking further from where you want to go!!! cuz there is many that would literally love to be in your shoes!

  • According to Todays Generation....Queen is Dead???

    so i was in dunnes on saturday right, and there was this young lad of 18 (id guess anyway) serving me, on the checkout beside him a girl around the same age, she was humming (badly) fat bottomed girls and goes "oh man i cant get that song outa my head" and he replies "what song is that?" and she goes "fat bottomed girls rocks your world around?" (i was half smirking at this stage) and anyway he goes "who sings that" and she replies "Queen" and he goes....wait for it...."WHO'S QUEEN??" and she goes...."that band from the 60s, you prob dont no them they are all dead anyway" (i could barely contain myself at this stage!!!) and he replies "never heard of them anyway" and she goes (and this is the straw that breaks the camals back...) "they sound like MIKA does, you'd prob heard them at some stage"...



    AAARGH...so summing up the youth of today...Queen is dead (so obviously the ghost of Brian May made an appearance at Nelson Mandelas Bday!) and Queen sound like MIKA!!! oh dear....
