The Boy Who Flew....and Crashed!
Hi all,
Just a wee update about what's up in my life, and of course like the markets, what's goin down. I thought I'd bring out the big pun right from the get-go but it's directed more towards the fact that a plane we had filming aerial shots over a town called Clones in Co Monaghan came crashing to the ground. But don't worry, we didn't make Sky News with this one because it was a radio controlled plane with a digital camera strapped to its wing. Actually we were using Monaghan's County GAA stadium for our runway and it hit the goal post coming in to land. Not the first, and CERTAINLY not the last time that post was hit I'm sure!! (dig) Alas we lost all the good footage that was shot and the plane was a write off, but thankfully our pilot Maurizio Taddei had a spare plane in the trunk of his car.
We were shooting a short film called 'The Boy (...Who Flew!)' as part of a competition run by Scanbitz for this years Clones Film Festival. A script I submitted earlier on in the year was shortlisted with four others and each film had to be shot and post-produced in 48 hours in time for a screening and awards ceremony on the closing night of the festival. Needless to say, we didn't carry home any Oscars or Francies, but we were beaten fairly and squarely by a great little silent short called 'The Fag'. Each film will be released at some point later in the year for everyones viewing pleasure.
I won't go into much detail about our film just yet, until its being released but I do want to thank everyone who was involved in the making of it. Alan Farrell, Kevin Glynn, Neasa De Barra, Dave Mccune, JP Whearty and our colourful cast Matthew O' Brien, Pat Fallon, Emily Parkes and John 'lover boy' Slattery. And of course all our crew and researchers and organizers of the Clones Film Festival. Cheers lads.
In other news, ah, there's not much other news really. It's been pretty quiet with me recently. All work and fek all play, but I do have some interesting film projects on the go so I'm excited about those and looking forward to unleashing them onto a screen or a wall even, when they're done. 'The Moment' is the current film we've got in post production, but the process is so slow when micro-budgets and lack of funding is a factor. We've been getting positive feedback tho so with a bit of luck it won't take too much longer.
On the health side of things I've been keeping well *touch wood* and this is due to the fact that a certain medical appliance that I rely on has made an advancement to its product which has benefited me greatly. (If this topic is of interest to you for whatever reason I'd be happy to discuss it further in private.) Let's just say, in the words of Chris Martin from Coldplay... "Science and progress"
happy days.
Hey, I think that should qualify as a news update? I'm off to chill out with a dvd and maybe a warm bottle of Miller
...oh, the film is 'Lawrence of Arabia'.
An absolute epic masterpiece!! god I love film!!!
peace out fellas
Paddy

The Write Stuff
It's been a while since I updated my website, so I thought I'd drop by and currentify things up a bit.
I've been practically hiding out the last couple of months, writing like the words are going out of style! Aside from socializing with some friends, and attending certain album launches from a certain Mr Wayne Brennan (.com) who released his amazing debut opus titled 'In My Hands'. That's about all the excitement I could handle lately.
I'm really happy and confident in what I'm working on at the moment, which is a feature length script. Working title: 'What Draws Us' I won't go into detail, but in a nutshell, it's about two "street-wise" guys and an unsuspecting girl, who's lives become entwined through the most unlikely of circumstances. Each with very different backgrounds, this unconventional friendship will inevitably lead to some life-changing and sometimes soul-destroying realizations. It may have a running time of about 90 minutes, and will be Certified PG if I can manage to keep the swear words at bay! haha
This is where I'm focusing my mind at the moment, but aside from the long-term projects, I have completed 4 other short scripts which I intend on making during the coming months. Getting financial backing however may be a challenge this time, cause the themes of these films are less than conventional I think. I'm trying to get a better understanding of life and society around me, and in order to do so, I feel I need to examine the less glamorous elements that ultimately shape our ideas of the world today. The last thing that interests me is the thought of writing a "Hollywood" friendly story, which sole purpose is superficial "switch-your-brain-off" entertainment.
I want to write something evocative. Something profound. And most importantly, something artistically relavent. And I'll be completely honest, I am finding it difficult at times to source the inspiration and motivation. This unfortunately is one of my Achilles heels I fear. The idea that I'm wasting my time, and energy chasing a pipedream. Shockin negative altogether, but it's there nonetheless. Perhaps I need me a wee break from the deep thinking and go refresh my brain in an open field during a gale-force wind!
...........yes. Indeed that IS what I need!!
I'm going to go and do just that!
Adios amigos, and hope yall are havin a great year so far. Slow down days, summers almost over before its begun!!
love light and peace.
Paddy
ps- I miss the gigging. I miss the craic at gigs with other musicians. Hmmm..... Might examine these thoughts later too. Ciao.
