End of the Line...for now
So, October 10th, Sound Over Silence played its last gig of 2009.
The date had two significances for the band. It was the quarter-centenary celebration of bassist Paul 'Shinty' Thomson. It was also drummer Adam Lochery's leaving do.
So in a typical understated fashion, friends and family piled into the 13th Note, Glasgow to see 7 bands/artists play.
Starting off the evening was The GPW Experience, who brought tears to people's eyes with his "Sad Song". Following this was SOS singer Euan Walker, who impressed with a selection of acoustic covers.
The first band of the night was Stutterbunny, who kicked things off superbly with an energetic set. After this, our good friends Seminole smashed through their set in a clown and 80's rocker outfit (did i forget to mention it was a fancy dress party?).
Then it was our turn. I'd like to think we rose to the challenge, and the crowd was very appreciative. Set List was as follows;
Release
Sold Your Soul
Someone There
Only One
Time Tried
Take the Kill
Fill My Glass
Bring You Down
Shade
Following us was blues/rock band Eightball, which was preceded by headliners For Your Sins, who brought the evening to a close with a brutal set, closing with a fantastic cover of Hot Stuff.
So that's it. Until January, Sound Over Silence will not be gigging. Plans are to spend some time in the studio, writing new material, so please keep checking our Myspace to hear any new demos we may put up.
Thank you for all the support we've been given by you over the past year. See you on the other side.
Michael

Cosmopol Clydebank Gig 19th June 2009
Cosmopol Clydebank Gig, 19th June 2009:
Filthy Little Secret (Headline)
Sound Over Silence
What's the Damage
Phillip Feenan (Acoustic)
Ramone (Acoustic)
Last night proved to be an exceptional debut for some new material. "Take the Kill" went down very well with the crowd and increased the tempo of our run in to our finalé.
Setlist:
Fill My Glass
Someone's There
Last Chance
Keeper
Sold Your Soul
Time Tried
Take the Kill
Bring You Down
Shade
The night was kicked off by Ramone, who was then followed by a solid performance by Phillip Feenan. What's the Damage took the stage for their 2nd ever gig and produced an energetic show incorporating covers of Iron Maiden's "The Trooper" and Metallica classic "Seek and Destroy". As we took to the stage and Adam was still setting up his kit an impromptu version of "Tribute" was on the go with audience participation at the forefront...
Headliners Filthly Little Secret did not delay in stamping their mark on the night with a series of catchy songs backed by a quite brilliant rhythm section. Once again the members of Team Rhythm may have been involved in the instigation of an encore... but it was well deserved!
We thoroughly enjoyed playing the gig and rattling out some new material, the sound was good and the crowd were one of the most frenzied we've witnessed.
Look out for some more new material in our upcoming gigs with tracks such as Sympathize almost ready for your aural pleasure!
See you all soon,
Shinty

Cosmopol Gig with Maximum Ricky
Last night was our best gig yet, playing our longest set to date:
Fill My Glass
Bring You Down
Seize Life
Last Chance
Keeper
Sold Your Soul
Time Tried
Someone's There
Shade
The night was kicked off by The Groove, who were then followed by the phenomenal Seminole (who have leapt at our proposition and confirmed their slot in Shinty and Adam's Birthday Bash in October). We took the stage after Seminole to a lively and seemingly appreciative crowd [we received our first "S-O-S" chants...something we love to hear], and were followed by Annie Stevenson.
Then came a truly awesome performance from Maximum Ricky, a band that travelled from Barcelona to be at the gig. It was such a show that the crowd demanded an encore.
We had alot of fun playing the gig, we had a great sound and the crowd were fantastic.
Look out for some more new material in our upcoming gigs with tracks such as Sympathize and Take the Kill almost ready for your aural pleasure!
See you all soon,
Shinty

Hey guys,
Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you, had a lot of work needing done and finally caught up on it all.
There are open auditions for an annual music festival held in Erskine - 19th July this year - at which bands play to an audience of around 1500.
Auditions are in the Bargarran Community Centre from 7pm to 9pm on Wed 27th May and Mon 8th June. Equipment is provided, bring your own instruments.
If you are unable to come along, but are interested, let me know and any demo recordings you have can be used as a submission.
There's a good chance that you will be put on the bill at the music festival, and it's always a good way to promote your band.
Hope to hear from you soon.
