  • SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE! IPSC NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION - SAT APRIL 12

From Deir Yassin to Gaza, 60 Years of Israeli State Oppression - Show Your Solidarity With Palestine!

IPSC NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION - SAT APRIL 12
2PM, CENTRAL BANK, DAME STREET, DUBLIN 2

Voice your opposition to the brutal and racist policies of the Israeli State over the past six decades and show your solidarity with the besieged and occupied people of Palestine, come along to the demonstration and make some noise!

60 years ago in Palestine, newly-arrived European Jewish settlers drove their long established Palestinian neighbours out of most of Palestine, which then became Israel. They did this through a combination of terror and massacre. Once again Israel is terrorising and massacring Palestinians – this time in Gaza – prompting fears of renewed mass ethnic cleansing.

Deir Yassin was a small village next to Jerusalem. Although its inhabitants hadn't taken part in the fighting to defend Palestine, it was here that the most infamous massacre took place 60 years ago. On the morning of April 9th 1948, Zionist forces drove into the village, rounded up the men, women and children and coldbloodedly massacred them. The massacre was pre-planned and designed to terrorise other Palestinians into fleeing.

Afterwards, twenty five of the survivors were paraded around Jerusalem, then taken to a quarry and murdered. Today this would be called 'collective punishment' – the terrorism of the powerful. Today a million and a half innocent people in Gaza are being collectively punished. They are imprisoned; they are starved of food and water, subjected to aerial bombardment, tank and rocket attacks; denied electricity, medicines, and sewerage facilities.

They are being denied a future. Hundreds have died so far this year. This senseless brutality must stop if there is ever to be peace. Make your voice heard - come to our demonstration and demand that Israel ceases - and the International Community stops being complicit in - the destruction of Gaza. We can't stop yesterday's atrocities; we must prevent today's.

Remember Deir Yassin! Remember the Palestinians in Gaza today!

  • World Against War Demo - 5th Anniversary of occupation of Iraq

    DEMONSTRATE 15th OF MARCH

    Assemble 1pm, Parnell Sq, Dublin.

    * US Troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan
    * Don’t Attack Iran
    * US troops and torture flights out of Shannon
    * Justice for Palestine

5th Anniversary of occupation of Iraq…
    END WAR, OCCUPATION
    & IRISH COMPLICITY

Five years after the US led invasion of Iraq
the world is a far more dangerous place. Estimates
suggest over a million Iraqi’s have
died as a result of the war. Four million have
been driven from their homes. The social
and economic infrastructure of the country
    has been shattered.

The US say they are bringing democracy to
Iraq, yet the vast majority of Iraqi’s, whether
Sunni or Shia want US troops to withdraw.
The majority of people in both the US and
UK want their troops brought home but
Bush and Brown still say no.

In Afghanistan, tens of thousands have died
as a result of the NATO occupation. The US
military are spending $65,000 per minute
on the conflict and there are four times
more air strikes than in Iraq.

The instability is spreading. The current
turmoil in Pakistan is partly a result of the
so-called “war on terror” as was the earlier
    Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

Despite recent rhetoric from Bush the terrible
    oppression of the Palestinian people
    under Israeli occupation continues.
Incredibly, after the disaster of Iraq, Bush
and his Israeli allies are again cranking up
threats of a further war against Iran.

Against the wishes of the majority of Irish
people, the Irish government is up to its
neck in the US led war agenda. Over one
million US troops have passed through

    Shannon on route to
kill and be killed in Iraq and elsewhere.
    The Irish government
    are still facilitating
    CIA flights known to be
    involved in an illegal kidnapping
    and torture programme. Bertie Ahern’s
government, now joined by the Green Party,
    have destroyed Irish neutrality.

March 2008 marks the fifth anniversary
of the US occupation of Iraq. The best way
to mark this anniversary is to demand that
the US and British forces withdraw their
troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and halt
their threats against Iran. Crucially, we must
demand that the Irish government ends
its complicity with the US war and torture
    machine at Shannon.

    The Irish Anti-War Movement, supported
by the Peace & Neutrality Alliance and the
NGO Peace Alliance are calling for a major
    demonstration on Saturday March 15th
at 1pm, assembling at Parnell Square in
    Dublin.

The protest is part of a global week of action
to mark the anniversary that will see
    demonstrations across the globe from
Washington to Beirut, from London to Sydney
    to Seoul.

We appeal to the Irish public to join the
global protests and demand an end to war,
    occupation and our government’s complicity
    at Shannon.

  • SAY NO TO WAR AND OCCUPATION, US MILITARY OUT OF SHANNON

Statement and Appeal to the Irish government on the third Anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq

As we approach the third anniversary of the US led invasion of Iraq, we appeal to the Irish Government to act urgently to end the slaughter in Iraq and to avert the threat of further slaughter in Iran and elsewhere.

The US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq was an unlawful act of aggression, based on false claims about weapons of mass destruction. Between 37,000 and 120,000 lives have been lost as a result. Hundreds continue to die every week under the US occupation.

FLOUTING OF INTERNATIONAL LAW AND VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Horrific scenes of torture at Abu Ghraib prison, widespread allegations of torture in Guantanamo Bay, denial of human rights and indefinite detention of prisoners taken in combat, the deployment of new categories such as 'unlawful combatant' and the CIA 'renditions' programme, all suggest a deliberate and dangerous flouting of International law and human rights by the US in pursuit of the so-called 'war on terror'.

Widespread reports of executions and torture being carried out by militias and foreign mercenaries, linked to the US-backed Iraqi government indicate an almost complete collapse of human rights standards and protections in occupied Iraq. The social and economic infrastructure of Iraq has been utterly devastated by ten years of western sanctions and the war and occupation in 2003. The majority of Iraqis have been plunged into a situation of dire poverty, disease, unemployment and violence. Iraq's health and social services are devastated while its wealth and resources are plundered by the big multinationals. The illegal use of highly radioactive depleted uranium has poisoned the Iraqi environment for generations to come, increasing birth defects, stillbirths and cancer rates.

The US and its allies maintain the occupation of Iraq in the face of the overwhelming opposition of its people. Every opinion poll taken since 2003 shows that a majority of Iraqis (85% in the last poll) wants a withdrawal of US-led forces. The military occupation of Iraq and the sectarian political structures established by the occupying forces, either by design or error, are fanning the flames of violence and civil war.

US military aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq, its sabre-rattling against Iran and Syria and its unconditional support for the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine have increased the likelihood of terrorist attacks in western countries. In addition the simplistic linking of Islam with terrorism by sections of the western media is encouraging racism against Muslim communities across the western world.

The most serious threat to world peace today is US military aggression and its foreign and national security policy including the option to use nuclear weapons on a first strike basis against non-nuclear states. At over $500 billion last year US military and arms expenditure is encouraging a new global arms race. Such expenditure on war and weapons of mass destruction represents an obscenity in the face of global hunger, which could be fully alleviated with a fraction of this amount.

    COMPLICITY OF IRISH GOVERNMENT

The Irish government is complicit in the criminal actions and warmongering of the US military and government in Iraq by allowing over 500,000 US troops through Shannon Airport since the beginning of 2003, an act in flagrant violation of Irish neutrality. In addition the government's decision to facilitate US aircraft involved in the CIA 'renditions' programme, and its refusal to search these aircraft, implicates Ireland in serious violations of International law and seriously questions its human rights obligations as a signatory of the Geneva and Hague Conventions.

OUR DEMANDS TO THE IRISH GOVERNMENT

We, the undersigned, call on the Government of Ireland to end its collusion with US military aggression, and breaches of internation
