- Legendary Environmental Activist to Speak in UCD Next Thursday 7th February
Next Thursday at 6pm, renowned environmental activist Mayer Hillman will be delivering an address in UCD, on Global Warming, entitled “Climate Change: Unpalatable Truths and Moral Dilemmas”. The event will take place in the science building, in Theatre D, and is hosted by the UCD Greens and Student Action on Climate Change.
Mayer Hillman is a highly influential and fascinating environmental activist and the event is a must see for anyone interested in environmental issues. He will be outlining the deteriorating state and habitability of the planet and the inadequacy of current responses.
The event is open to all members of the public and if directions are needed, please contact Dave on 086 8122700.

- Student Action Climate Change are a group of students who are campaigning to put pressure on the Irish government to take action on climate change.
- What are the demands?
- 1. That a Climate Change Bill be put to the Dáil calling for a 3% annual reduction in Ireland's carbon emmissions.
2. An end to the over-reliance on Carbon Trading -it has its place, but we need real cuts in CO2 emissions.
3. A comprehensive strategy for investment in renewable energy. - Who can get involved?

Mass Public Gathering on Climate Change, Saturday 20th Trinity College
On Saturday October 20th at 1.30pm, students and others from all over Ireland will gather in Trinity College for a public gathering, about action to tackle Ireland's greenhouse gas emissions.
Basically we're getting together students and others from all over the country who care about this issue for a historic event -Ireland's first mass gethering of students on what is probably the most important issue in the world. We'll launch a nation-wide campaign for action on this issue, and we are supported by groups like Friends of the Earth and others.
This campaign is already making progress - last week our demands were debated in Seanad Eireann. But we need to build a massive movement movement to keep on the pressure.
Anyway, I hope to see you there, it will be great. Brings your friends! For more info email environment@usi.ie.

UCD SACC: Next Meeting
We'll be having one more meeting for UCD Students Against Climate Change people before the end of the year. This meeting will be mostly about planning where we want to bring the campaign for next year, so that we can really hit the ground running and get as many people as possible involved from the very start of next year. It'd be great to get a good turn-out, so please try and make it down if you can; it won't go on too long anyway.

Global warming cannot be compartmentalised into one or two neat departments at Government level.
On Saturday, February 9th, Labour is hosting a forum to discuss how we in Ireland can Unite 4 our planet to combat Climate Change.
The Labour Party spokespersons Tommy Broughan (Transport), Liz McManus (Energy), Sean Sherlock (Agriculture) and Joanna Tuffy (Environment and Climate Change) will all make a contribution to the fourm.

The anti-aviation campaign subgroup will be meeting in mid-December, so will you post that on this site? I'll send you the exact date, time and place when I know it.
I think it would be a good idea to remove events that have already happened from the top of the page, or at least put them in the past tense. When it says "there will be a demonstration on 13th April" it gives the impression that the site has not been updated since then. Doesn't make the movement look active.
I would if knew how to make a website, but I think among all the students there must be at least one good web designer. Why not circulate an email?
