EVENTFUL!
6pm, Fri 3 April 2009: "I now have eight less teeth than I did this morning, a swollen jaw, and blood and drool pooling in my mouth. Give me a hug."
Humgadagum. Uuuuum... Where to start?
So, I'm getting braces soon. My teeth are all munted (as you can see in approximately 12%* of all photos of me - all 12% in which my teeth can be seen) because they're crowded, so to get them all spaced out my maxillofacial surgeon (omg I know right) knew that I'd have to have four teeth removed - the ones behind the ones behind my eye teeth. I don't miss 'em. They were a funny shape.
HOWEVER, seeing as they knew that my wisdom teeth were going to become impacted sooner or later and that extracting impacted wisdoms is liek teh pain the butt, they decided that they'd take THOSE out as well at the same time. Oh, joy. So I got EIGHT teeth out yesterday at about 4pm.
The op itself was not bad. Local anaesthetic, which was more than slightly weird because I was in absolutely no pain whatsoever, but I was fully awake in my brain. Apparently even with locals people get all woozy and sleepy, and that happened to me - for the first four minutes. After that I sort of came back and could hear everything going on around me (so the drill SUCKED), could follow the surgeon's conversations, could hear myself in my head - better than I usually can, actually - and could hear all the fucking Leonard Cohen playing in the background, too. Apparently that's not supposed to happen.
But it wasn't bad! The drugs made me happyful and cheeriness, so me being me I was chatting the to surgeons and waving at people - apparently that doesn't happen often either.
The worst bit of the entire thing was when they were pulling all of their hands and gloves and tubes out of my face and they were all covered with nasty blood-spit - which, it turns out, YOUR FACE PRODUCES A LOT OF.
Buuuuut, so... then we went home! I couldn't feel the bottom half of my face (literally - from my nose down I couldn't feel ANYTHING - I was sitting in the living room afterwards making a nuisance of myself going "brrrmmmm, brrrmmmm" with my lower lip) so thankfully I was in no pain, unlike poor Frafie. He was looking decidedly worse for wear... which is weird, seeing as he was only having four teeth taken out, and yet his operation took half an hour longer than mine. I dunno.
So I had a dinner of two chocolate milkshakes (it's a very strange sensation, drinking without any feeling in your bottom lip - even drinking through a straw is weird) and went to bed after drugging up again.
This is where it gets properly eventful! I woke up this morning at four-ish and got Mum to dose me up again, upon which time I crawled back into bed. Three hours later, I awoke again to tightness and cramps in my lower chest and shortness of breath. I sat in mounting pain for about ten minutes (the longest of my life, I will tell you) until I called for Mum, who dragged me out of bed and onto the landing, with the pain building and building - breathing hurt, talking hurt, couldn't find a comfortable position to be in at all - until she called 111 for an ambulance.
I have great faith in our emergency services. I've never been in that position before - I don't think I've been present at an incident that required a 111 call ever before, actually. The ambulance team arrived within fifteen minutes, were calm and collected, very lovely people, and didn't even mind that I drooled blood onto their nice clean pillowcase (then again, I suppose they've had worse...) and transported me to the hospital. By this time the tightness had actually settled, and I was feeling shitloads better as they put me into an A&E bed. Nurse came, asked what was what, took blood, etc. I was feeling perfectly fine by this time. Doctor came, said what was what, that my blood was all good, and that my attack was probably a delayed pain/shock reaction, compounded with having had Nurofen and Voltaren at 4 am on an empty stomach2 Commentaren 239 dagen

Semi-Permanent, YAY! Star Wars 2.5... nay.
Fuck. I had this all written out and then my bloody computer died on me. Now I don't have the patience to write it all out again (and I was going on a pretty darn good little review of Star Wars 2.5), so now you all get the condensed version.
Thursday evening.
Curvy exhibition/Misery's "Holly Melancholy And The Night That Saved The Day" (being run as a side event to Semi-Permanent - see below) - fantastic. So gorgeous. That lady has true skill~
Anyway, Misery impressed so much that Mother and I have shelled out about 3k for a resin head-trophy of hers (and cute-issimus stuffed vampire flower), and also a print from the Curvy show. I'm so excited for the 25th to go and pick them all up!
Thursday night.
Went to see Star Wars: The Clone Wars (colloquially referred to as Star Wars 2.5). Thoroughly disappointing. Dialogue = utter shit. Story = trite. I wasn't expecting anything much, but seriously. Animation = interesting, and looks good in stills, but moves so awkwardly that what I was expecting to be a mindblowing animated lightsaber battle ended up stilted and boring. Yoda's still cute, though. And some of the music was quite cool.
The whole movie just came off as an extended video game cut scene at the end of it all. And General Grievous (who would've really worked with the otherwise ungainly animation) was nowhere to be seen - even though he appeared in the ads for the movie, didn't he?
Anyway. I had such hopes for this movie... And slowly, with each minute of the horrifically bad one-liners, those hopes deflated into bitter, utter disappointment.
And today...
I just came back from the first day of Semi-Permanent 08 (Fuckin' yeeeaah! Take the day off school to go to a design conference with my mother's full approval~) and am seriously inspired, and rather jealous of all these insanely creative, fantastic and talented people who have pretty much the best jobs I could ever imagine happening.
And, even better - Semi-Permanent hands out kickass goodie bags. I still haven't gone though mine yet, but I'm keen to.
So tomorrow holds out the promise of the second half of Semi-Permanent, and also the afterparty, which I desperately want to go to for Joel Gethin Lewis being the DJ, and also letting partygoers loose on the LaserTag (no, not like Megazone) installation. Although it does say it's R18 (just 'cause of the stupid booze), and I don't really know if Mum'll be keen...
But hey. All in all, it's been a fantastic last two days. I've become the new owner of two new gorgeous Misery works, been given the privilege to listen to some very talented people, and am going to get to go back for more tomorrow. I am a happy chappie.
My hair looked fantastic throughout it all, no less. ;D

International Film Festival of 2008~
I loves the film festival so. Yes, I does.
But ah, the smell of Manga Head gel will forever transport me back to last year's festival. Death Note cosplayers FTW (as well as points for getting Fra to join in!).
So far, I have seen (in chronological order... to the best of my memory):
Vexille
Persepolis
King of Kong
Planet B-Boy
Max & Co.
Sukiyaki Western Django
Animation For Kids
Ben X
Be Kind Rewind
Timecrimes
... And they have all been fantastic.
What's that? Two in the morning? Why yes, that would be correct. And?1 Commentaar 501 dagen
