Greetings From Sunny Preston

Yes, the sunshine is here. Lovely stuff. I stayed up late on the bus last night, very late, looking out the front window at the cradle moon over the Forth Bridge and the orange red sun rising as we crossed the border into England. I love the busses that have the front lounge and window for looking out on the road; it gives an adventurous sense of the travelling and the actual ground we’re covering; passing farmhouses and housing estates, towns, villages and cities, slumbering bodies dreaming or lying awake with their worries, and our comrades of the road - truck, car and van-drivers all going to their somewheres. I marvel at the idea that our songs may have visited a reasonably large proportion of the homes and vehicles we pass.
Up the town there with Niall and our van-driver, Padraig. We had breakfast outside at a table on the street and I went off to look for a Preston shirt for a friend, to no avail. The sports shop only had the Premiership replicas and the tourist office wasn’t open, though they didn’t seem to have shirts within anyway. It’s not really the kind of town where you’d see a ‘I Heart Preston’ logo on a garment….
I’m going to take it easy today, enjoy the heat and the laziness and conserve the energy for the show tonight….

Dundee - Done Deal!
Written by Leo Moran
Sunday, 19 April 2009
I’ve been in Debenham’s here in Dundee twice in the last three hours and Sandi Thom’s ‘I Wish I Was A Punk-Rocker’ has been on both times – imagine working in there!
I still can’t figure out why the statues of Desperate Dan and his entourage grace the city centre here in Dundee, other than finding a reference to its being his ‘birthplace’ on Wikipedia; is it Dan’s hometown or his creator’s? Probably Dan’s.
These April days are very dark and dull – doesn’t look much like I’ll be wearing the shorts and sandals in the very near future, though England might be different????
I see a show advertised here on a poster for the Summer called ‘They Drive by Night’ featuring Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Flaco Jiminez – that would have to be good, must keep an eye out for it elsewhere..
Davy and Eimhin are downstairs here on the bus playing a soccer game and roaring at the tele; Davy’s just loudly and forcefully ejaculated that he hates Shay Given, or, I imagine he means, his pixellated entity at least.
Five o’clock – soundcheck time…
Fish and chips after soundcheck in the pub next door – no missals in the homeward direction required. Lovely hot shower and change the clothes and I’m ready for action..
What a night in Fat Sam’s! Such an enthusiastic and lively audience – all we had to do was ride the wave and enjoy the songs. One of the top 5% of gigs I would say.

Edinburgh, Ayr, Dundee, Desperate Dan...
Written by Leo Moran
Saturday, 18 April 2009
Nice to be back in Scotland again, I always like coming to this country. We’ve already done the after-races show at Ayr yesterday; we flew in to Edinburgh direct from Galway on Thursday afternoon – very handy, and had the evening in a tapas bar around the corner from Jury’s where sardines, stuffed pimentos, chorizo, chocolate mousse, beer, brandy and wine were all consumed, amongst other delightful produce. I was in bed early!
I sat up in the front of the top of the bus, like a child in the double-deckers in the city, for the lunchtime journey across the country to Ayr, by-passing Glasgow. It was so grey and dull – almost dark, but there was a little relief as we approached the West coast and things brightened up a bit when we got settled in at the course.
Unfortunate events at the races meant that two horses had accidents and had to be put down, which put a damper on the atmosphere on course, but people were in good humour and well up for it when we started up under the grandstand after the last race. We didn’t have a soundcheck as the area was being used during the day, so it felt a little strange to travel to a different country and arrive up onstage in front of a crowd with practically no preparation for the show. We got comfortable pretty quickly though with all the smiling enthusiastic faces in front of us and played for an hour and a half, for which a sizeable percentage of the racegoers stayed.
Woke up this morning fairly early in Dundee; grey again. We haven’t been in this East Coast city for a few years, and tonight we’re back at Fat Sam’s. The town is calm and friendly this weekend morning with a five-piece jazz band playing down at a square amongst the market stalls. We have a bite to eat at the Twin Cities Café and get a picture beside the brilliantly amusing statue of Desperate Dan from the Dandy. Happy Saturday!

All of you are adorable!! I have been taking my friend's private plane and enjoyed the "Fall Colours," in NY and other states. Now flying off to buy "Maple Syrup and candy," for friends down in the south of the states. After a long holiday, I will be flying to "Washington D.C.," so I can get my updated "British Passport," at the embassy. Guess what? I just got my first "American Passport," in my life, since I just became a dual citizen last year.
"Remember, Always Keep The Faith And Believe, Since Miracles Through Hard Work, Can Come True!"
God Bless you Leo and the rest of your band!!
Sincerely,
Suzanne
