EP Review
Glasgow rockers debut EP with three tracks which showcase their talent – and they do, too!!
The title track features one stormer of a performance from band and vocalist. The track begins with a brief surge of driving riffing from the band before they subside to let a gravel-voiced vocalist come in with an initially silently impassioned verse as the drums re-enter, the band chime in the background and then suddenly the whole thing erupts into this soaring chorus as the vocalist fires up, the band rise up and this incendiary guitar solo lights things up before dropping back to the solid riffing and finally back down to earth for another verse. It's a mixture of rock and bluesy rock done in a wholly different light, with dynamics and intensity from the arrangement providing the variation as the song cycles and another even hotter guitar solo bursts in, this time longer and more Classic Rock inspired. The band move into a final chorus as the fire up and take off in a blaze of guitars, soaring vocals and solid rhythms. “Breathe” starts slower with a burst of guitar chords and a vocal that's much in the vein of Tom Cochrane and, as you find out any second, an arrangement that's not far off any of the more rockin' numbers off Cochrane's “Ragged Ass Road” album. Once more, the band fire up every cylinder and this time the vocal really launches to great effect - powerful passionate and full of pleading angst, the arrangement driving forward in a hail of guitars, crunching rhythms and hi-octane indie-rock, with a soupcon of blues and some glorious harmonies on the memorable hooks, a really intense and superbly delivered performance, while lyrically, most of it is pretty darned good, the odd cheesy chorus aside. But, as a slice of nineties-influenced indie-rock Americana-metal goes, it's a winner every time you hear it. The best is saved to last as “Creature Comforts” testifies, opening with the vocals and stuttering buzz-saw guitar as the song starts to accelerate before the band surge in and the whole thing drives forward in a manner that combines the influences of Sammy Hagar, Thunder, Tom Cochrane and Blue Murder in one glorious melting pot of solid Scottish Classic Rock. As a song it's got a great hook delivered to perfection by a rock solid vocalist and a superbly recorded band who glow red hot. The lead guitar break adds spark and excitement as the track staggers to its finale with acceleration and thunder, another guitar break leading into the chorus as it all chugs ahead with energy, vitality and intensity. Three solid rockin' tracks that herald more to come of quality and distinction – a great first step.0 comentarios 195 días

Doghouse Review
Bizarre gig - not quite sure what and why, but here goes...........
First band on were Glasgow band Sol Diablos. Now I was here to check out The Grace Emilys, on sound advice, and happy to find that recent Doghouse faves The Carellos were doing a last minute replacement set, so, with Aberdeen's Viperlines playing last, I expected another, hopefully half decent, indie night.
As a rock fan also, then you can imagine my surprise and delight when the first
band get up on stage and out of the PA comes the sound of chunky rock riffs, solid
drumming, actual lead guitar breaks and great vocals as the band launch into an
opening number that had r-o-c-k running through the heart of it. Immediately
hooked, I gave it as much concentration as I could, bearing in mind I was
thoroughly enjoying it, the unusual site of me voluntarily swaying along making
its ugly reappearance. The vocalist had one of those throaty Joe Cocker-esque
voices and it really suited the song, while his onstage movements, although not as
pronounced as Woodstock-era Cocker, were pretty similar. But, as the set went on,
to this strong sounding vocal was also added a touch of the Grohls for good
measure, as the singer just soared through the set with power and in-tune heat.
The songs themselves are what you'd call solid rock songs, nothing particularly
metallic, and somewhere more akin to a cross between Thunder, The Cult, The Faces and bits of Foos. The lead guitarist played a wicked mix of riffs and solos while every song was absolutely sound and not a filler in sight. Best part was that they played it note perfect, the singer and band delivering a seriously powerful
performance. For the first time seeing them, and unexpectedly so, I have to say
that I'll go and see them again even if it means a trip to Glasgow, just so I can
do their set justice with a more detailed review, but for now, let me say, if you
want to go and see a really strong rock band, then this is a band you really
should check out - more to follow, no doubt...
