How the turkey got her excess skin.

Once upon a time, on a dusty farmyard in Texas, there lived a turkey. The turkey was extremely fat. Her mother often comforted her by telling her gently, "You're not fat. You just have big bones."

The turkey's favourite food was southern fried chicken. The very thought of those juicy strips of tender chicken made her lick her lips and rub her big fat belly hungrily. She ate southern fried chicken at least five times a day and did nothing but sleep between meals. She never ate salad or vegetables and shrieked in terror at the sound of the word 'exercise'.

One day the turkey was plodding uncomfortably across the farmyard, her big fat belly wobbling like a jelly, when she came across a small and tender looking chicken. She licked her lips and began to sharpen her carving knife.

"Are you going to eat me?" asked the chicken in a small voice.

"Yes," replied the turkey. "I'm going to slice you, fry you and gobble you up."

And with that, she licked her lips more than ever.

Just as the turkey was about to plunge the carving knife into the juicy flesh of the small chicken, the chicken shouted "Stop!"

The turkey looked annoyed. "What is it now?" she asked. "Can't you see I'm hungry?"

"I don't mean to be rude," said the chicken in a trembling voice, "but...well...don't you think you're fat enough already?"

Not surprisingly, this really offended the poor fat turkey. She put her carving knife away and went to sit for a long time behind the cowshed, feeling very fat and very unhappy.

Eventually, with lots of help and encouragement from her mother, the turkey begain to take regular exercise. She ate salad and vegetables, and even began to enjoy them! Finally, weeks later, the turkey found she had lost so much weight that she was left with a little flap of baggy skin on her neck where the flab used to be.

She didn't mind this in the least because it reminded her of how much happier she was now she was slim and healthy.
