Title: Applying a finish.


Aim: To find the best way to finish a piece.


Apparatus: two 150 x90 x12 red deal samples, Ronseal wood varnish brush, white sprites, cloth, p180 sand paper, brush.

Method: 1, mark the back of the 1 piece A and the other B.
2, using sample A apply the finish straight onto the wood without sanding or cleaning.
3, using sample B sand the face with p180 sand paper then dust down with a brush and then clean with white sprits.
4, let the white sprits evaporate and then apply the varnish.
5, repeat steps 2 to 5 again

Results: after a visual inspection of the two samples I found that sample B was the better of the two it was smooth and finished well as for sample A the surface was coarse and not as well finished as sample B.

Conclusion: in conclusion of the experiment the best way finish a piece is to sand it with fine sand paper then dust it down with a brush clean with white sprites let that evaporate and then apply the finish,

Title: comparing finishes.


Aim: To find the best finish for a piece.


Apparatus: one 475 x66 x12 red deal sample, Ronseal wood varnish brush, Danish oil, bees wax, teak oil white sprites, 4 cloths, p180 sand paper, brush masking tape.

Method: 1, sand the face of the piece with p180 sand paper
2, brush down the sample amd then clean with white sprites.
3, when the white sprits have evaporated use the masking tape to make 4 different sections on the sample.
4, on the back of each section Wright the name of the each of the four finishs.
3, then apply each finish to the section it is designated. 4, Danish oil applied with a cloth. Bees wax applied with cloth teak oil applied with a cloth and varnish applied with a brush.

Results: after a visual inspection of the sample I found that each finish had its own distinctive properties and benefits.

Conclusion: in conclusion of the experiment I found that there are many way of finishing a piece that look well.

Title: driving a screw.


Aim: To find the best way to drive a screw into a piece.

Apparatus: two 150 x90 x12 red deal samples, two 40x4 screws, drill, 3mm drill bit, screw driver, counter sinker.

Method: 1, mark the back of the 1 piece A and the other B.
2, using sample A mark a point in 20mm and down 20mm form the edge and screw the screw straight in. (the piece should split)
3, using sample B mark a point in 20mm and down 20mm form the edge using the 3mm drill bit drill a pilot hole.
4, then using the counter sinker counter sink the hole.
5,then drive the screw into the piece. (The piece will not split)

Results: after a visual inspection of the two samples I found that sample B was the better of the two because the piece did not split. As for sample A the piece did.

Conclusion: in conclusion of the experiment the best way drive a screw into a piece is to drill a pilot hole counter sink the hole and the drive the screw into the hole.

9 am.........i wake up text ger "that was rough"
9:02.........phone buzzes........its ger......huskey voice"well capt whats the jack?"......"well aus heading town?"......."blazers?"......."ye"
9:30.........ryans breakfast, the manager gives us loads of free stuf nice one
9:40....ger"ay lads where is the cup?" after numerous legend stories where the cup might be phelo eventually remembers mick brought it home
10 am after a few unsucessful phone calls to mick we got a taxi to his gaf.....dor was open....i went in and got the cup......taxi back to naas.
11 am.....naas cbs......10 lads....blazers...shirt.....some had ties.....and cheenos............the ga flas were not to happy to see us??? wonder why?????
11:10......10 lads walk down to superquinn to jo our other coach.....smell of drink of us they knew we were coming....big smiles....waving ....and blocking noses.
11:15...."boys...a few scoops wood sort us up now" walk to the lodge.......people were saying one or two bulmers and
then we would all head home!!!
7pm............(yes 7pm as in 1900 as in 7 and a half hours later after we went to the pub and the funniest day of my life) "ay phelo....how are we getting home?"
