why is Waterford City the only one of the Republics five official cities without a University
why is the south-east the only region without a university?
all the facts show that the region suffers because of a lack of University!
recent research showed that the south-east had lower income levels than any other region of Ireland, the main reason is the lack of a University.
A university based in Waterford with campuses in Wexford, Clonmel, Kilkenny and Enniscorthy would benefit the whole region and country.
IDA research has shown that the lack of a univeristy is a major detriment to attracting investment and job creation.
WE WANT A UNIVERSITY & WE WANT IT NOW!
LET THE POLITICIANS KNOW THAT THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Bausch & Lambe .... Waterford Crystal ... Jobs going everywhere in the South-East ... but what is the goverment doing? Nothing is what ... plenty of money for an unnecessary metro in Dublin .... money for islamic terrorists in Gaza but NO MONEY to invest in education for the South-East!!!!!

Fianna Fail have been talking a lot about the need to develop Ireland as a knowledge economy, all of Ireland it seems except the South-East. Companies setting up in the South-east receive only 33% of the funding companies in the BMW receive, that is despite having the lowest income level and highest unemployment level in the country. All the major cities except Waterford have a university, Half a million people in counties Tipperary, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford must leave their region to go to university, Why?

Waterford Institute of Technology Young Fine Gael will be starting our University for the South East campaign tomorow, Feb 9th 09. We will be circulating a petition within the college nd will also seek signatures from residents and businesses within the city. This will be sent to Education Minister Bat o Keefe wit the aim of compelling them to finally do something about the issue. We will follow this on by holding a public meeting where we will invite down leading politicans including Fine Gael spokesman on Education Brian Hayes, this will be open to the public as a whole.
Hopefull with enough support we will be succesful. -

Youth Politics supports all endevours for a University in the South East. The final implementation of any proposals for a University for the SE would be up to the Government, and therefore I strongly urge all government and interested parties to implement calls for a University in Waterford.

Sure, unless you're living in Dublin you're unlikely to get anything of the sort. Look at all the controversy the medical schools up there caused when UL got the postgrad medicine instead of them. University of Waterford all the way!

It is crystal clear now that a vote for Fine Gael is a Vote for university status in the Southeast!

Well Done to Brian Hayes for not responding with a knee jerk reaction to the publication of the report - Fg were criticised for not responding sooner- we will see now why this was the case -
they have approached this critical issue in a calm and objective way-

North Kilkenny YFG has continued to back your campaign with a press release in many of the Kilkenny papers recently (see our blog).

Waterford Young Fine Gael
It is my understanding that the Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny, Education spokesman Brian Hayes and our south east senators and TD's met with partners and WIT reps last week with a view to making a final policy decision on the issue during next week, so i await just like you a final decision by our senior party. I can tell you that university at WIT is a Young Fine Gael policy currently and we are pressing the matter with the senior party.
I will inform you and everyone the result either way when i find out, & im sure you will see it in the press be it negative or positive news, hopfully the latter.
University NOW is our stance as you no.....
sick of listening to people in the mid-west complaining about losing a few flights to their airport that the rest of us have been bankrolling for years .. we don't have any flights to Heathrow either ...
