- The Scottish Youth Parliament, also known as SYP, is a democratically elected youth organisation in Scotland, consisting of elected members aged between 14 and 25.
The Scottish Youth Parliament aims to be an effective, open, honest, inclusive and broad-minded voice for Scotland’s young people." In more detail, the SYP lists its aims as offering young people in Scotland a collective national youth voice; making a difference in society by increasing young people’s participation; promoting a positive image of young people; connecting the processes of policy making and development with young people, and; being an independent and youth-led organisation free from influence, where young people can give their views to policy makers without hindrance, fear or barriers.
the most important thing though, is we can make a difference through having fun and meeting lots of great new people!

SYP are looking for members to join the Communications and Media Sub-Group.

The agenda of the next meeting will include:
- Review of Website
- Review of Newsletter
- Annual Report
- Exploring the use of technology in SYPs Communications
- Training requests/ requirements
Suggested dates for a meeting are July 11th,12th, 16th or 17th day or evening, so let me know what suits you best.
I'd really encourage you to get involved in the group as it's a chance for MSYPs outwith the Board to have a real say over SYPs internal and external communications and give a meaningful contribution and direction to one of the most important aspects of the organisation.

This year
This year is the most exciting yet for the SYP and its Subject Committees; after a lot of hard work putting together political statements which truly reflect the wishes of Scotland's young people, these have now been collated into a full-scale consultation document, which we're now taking to the streets!
We're hoping that we can get 20,000 young people to give us their opinions before we can announce our manifesto and it really means something - if more than 50% disagree with any of our statements then we'll take them out...
When we've got all the responses we'll publish the final manifesto in March (hopefully in the Scottish Parliament with all the party leaders) including what political parties think of each of the policies, so we can tell young voters what parties think about the issues they think are important.
We should point out that we have no interest in promoting any particular party, we'll just be telling you what they said (totally equally!)0 Commentaren 1040 dagen

Scottish Youth Parliament!
"The New 10 Commandments" is a TV programme which will be broadcast on BBC2 Scotland on Sunday 7th December at 10.50pm after Match of the Day 2.
It is the Scottish-produced human rights film documentary "The New Ten Commandments" which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival this year, as reported in Scottish Republican News -

Those standing up for human rights in Scotland appearing in the different chapters of the programme include -
* Peter Dow's republican protest against the Queen at Holyrood
* Aamer Anwar, lawyer, defending a contempt of court charge
* Jim Swire, campaigning on Lockerbie Pan Am flight 103 bombing
* Anti-slavery-sex-trafficking, suicides-concerned & asylum-seekers campaigners
The film's 10 directors have each produced a 10 minute chapter to illustrate an article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on its 60th anniversary.

we do support independence; but aren't campaigning on it as it did not receive the necessary support from young people.
