South Park is a double Emmy Award-winning, animated American television comedy series, created and written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for Comedy Central. The show is set in the fictional town of South Park, Colorado. The series has been distributed and aired by Comedy Central since 1997. The show is well-known for its pop-culture parody, scatological humor, and satirical handling of current events.

Since its debut on August 13, 1997, the show has aired 170 episodes over 12 seasons. The twelfth season began airing on March 12, 2008.[1] The show is contracted to produce new episodes through a fifteenth season, until late 2011.[2]

South Park began around 1992 when Trey Parker and Matt Stone, at the time students at the University of Colorado, met in a film class and created an animated short called Jesus vs. Frosty. The low-budget crudely made film featured prototypes of the main characters of South Park, including a character resembling Cartman but named "Kenny", an unnamed character resembling what is today Kenny, and two near-identical unnamed characters who would resemble Stan and Kyle.[3]

In 1995, FOX executive Brian Graden saw the film, and commissioned Parker and Stone to create a second short film that he could send to his friends as a video Christmas card. Titled Jesus vs. Santa, it resembled the style of the later series more closely, and featured a martial arts duel and subsequent truce between Jesus and Santa Claus over the true meaning of Christmas. This video was later featured in the episode "A Very Crappy Christmas" in which Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, and Mr. Hankey "save" Christmas for the town. The video was popular and was widely shared, both by duplication and over the Internet. This led to talks to create a series, first with FOX, then with Comedy Central, where the series debuted on August 13, 1997. During the first four seasons of South Park, clips of the shorts can be seen in the opening sequence within an old television and a billboard.





History
South Park's early episodes tended to be shock value-oriented and featured more Pythonesque humor than later episodes. Although satire had been used on the show occasionally earlier on, it became more prevalent in later episodes. Episodes have parodied Michael Jackson ("The Jeffersons"), Paris Hilton ("Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset"), and The Passion of the Christ ("The Passion of the Jew"), as well as addressed serious political issues such as terrorism ("Cartoon Wars"), American immigration policy ("Goobacks"), Gay Marriage ("Follow that Egg"), and the Terri Schiavo case ("Best Friends Forever").

The pilot episode, "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe" (nearly identical to the first official episode, which has the same name), required three months to produce using construction paper and traditional cut-out animation techniques. However, the version that aired was different from the original version. Current episodes duplicate the original, amateurish look using modern computer animation tools — first PowerAnimator and then Maya, which Parker and Stone described as "building a sandcastle with a bulldozer". This allows for a shorter production schedule, enabling the creators to respond quickly to current events. The December 17, 2003 episode "It's Christmas in Canada" depicted the capture of Saddam Hussein a mere three days after the actual event, even referring to the "spider hole" in which he was found. In this instance - as with the Elián González episode ("Quintuplets 2000") - the creators changed the production of an episode at the last minute to focus on the new world event.

WrestleMania XXIV was the twenty-fourth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on March 30, 2008 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. It was the first WrestleMania to be held in the state of Florida,[1] and the second WrestleMania to be held entirely outdoors, the other being WrestleMania IX. The tagline for the event was "The Biggest WrestleMania Under the Sun."[2] The official theme songs for the event are "Snow ((Hey Oh))" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and "Light It Up" by Rev Theory.[3]

WWE and the city of Orlando hosted festivities that spanned a five-day period within the central Florida region, bringing numerous branding opportunities and television coverage, leading up to the event at the Citrus Bowl.[4] The Central Florida Sports Commission estimate WrestleMania XXIV will pump $25 million into the local economy while creating numerous jobs, and bring around 60,000 visitors to the city for the event.[5] Tickets went on sale to the public on November 3, 2007.[6] Over 41,000 tickets were sold in 30 minutes, already making WrestleMania XXIV the highest-grossing event in the history of the Citrus Bowl.[7]

It was a joint-promotion event, featuring performers from the RAW, SmackDown, and ECW brands. The main matches included a Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship between Randy Orton, Triple H and John Cena,[8] and Edge against The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship.[9] Other matches included a Money in the Bank ladder match,[10] and a match between Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels.[11]

Background
After John Cena made his return to the WWE and won the 2008 Royal Rumble match entering at the #30 spot, he decided to challenge Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at No Way Out instead of WrestleMania. During the match, Orton slapped the referee to get himself intentionally disqualified and retain the WWE Championship.[12] Also at No Way Out, Triple H defeated five other competitors in an Elimination Chamber match to earn a WWE Championship match against Orton at WrestleMania.[13] The night after No Way Out on RAW, Cena argued that he deserved another shot at the WWE Championship due to the way his match with Orton ended. The General Manager of RAW William Regal then announced that Cena would face Orton in the main event later in the night with the stipulation being if Cena won, he would be added to the WrestleMania match, changing it to a Triple Threat match, but if Orton won, the main event would stay as Orton defending against Triple H. Regal also announced Triple H as the Special Guest Referee for the match. Cena won the match after an FU to Orton. After the match, Triple H delivered a Pedigree to both Cena and Orton and posed with the WWE Championship.[14]

On the heels of William Regal announcing an Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out to determine the No. 1 Contender to the WWE Championship, Theodore Long announced another Elimination Chamber match to determine the No. 1 Contender to the World Heavyweight Championship.[15] The Undertaker won the Elimination Chamber to earn a title match against Edge at WrestleMania.[16]

At No Way Out, The Big Show made a surprise return to the company. In his return promo, Big Show threatened to give Rey Mysterio a Chokeslam. Professional boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who was in attendance and a close friend of Mysterio's, came to his aid and confronted Big Show. Big Show then got on his knees to allow Mayweather to punch him, which Mayweather did, by hitting him with a combination of punches, which caused Big Show to bleed from the nose and mouth.[17] The following night on RAW, The Big Show challenged Mayweather to a match, which Mayweather accepted.[18]

Survivor Series 2005 was the nineteenth annual Survivor Series pay-per-view professional wrestling event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on November 27, 2005 at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.[1] The tagline was "The Beginning of the End", the official theme song was "Lights Out" by P.O.D.[2]

The main event was a Survivor Series match between Team SmackDown! and Team RAW. Randy Orton last eliminated Shawn Michaels to win the match for Team SmackDown!, and become the sole survivor in his Survivor Series match for the third year.[3][4] The main matches on the undercard were Triple H against Ric Flair in a Last Man Standing match,[3][5] and John Cena against Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship (with Daivari as Special Guest Referee).[3][6]

The main feud going into Survivor Series was between the RAW and SmackDown! brands. Eric Bischoff and Theodore Long, the general managers of RAW and SmackDown!, respectively, have been competitive before, but the feud escalated on the October 3 edition of RAW, a special edition billed as the "WWE Homecoming." A special match featuring SmackDown! superstars was scheduled for the show, but as it began, Bischoff came out, and ended the match by turning the lights off. Long came out later in the show to interrupt a RAW match in return, and started a brawl between both brands.[7] The two brands interfered in the other's show before facing each other in a tag team match at Taboo Tuesday, which SmackDown! won.[8] Afterwards, Bischoff and Long decided on a 5-on-5 elimination match, and a single match between the two at Survivor Series.[9] The teams feuded on both shows, and Batista, the captain of the SmackDown! team, suffered an injury after being beat down several times. Eddie Guerrero was originally scheduled to be on Team SmackDown!,[10] but he died on November 13, 2005, and was replaced by Randy Orton.

John Cena and Kurt Angle feuded over the WWE Championship. Their feud began in August when Bischoff, who despised Cena, chose Angle to take Cena's title from him.[11] Angle failed to win the title at Unforgiven and Taboo Tuesday.[12][13][14] On the November 7 edition of RAW, Angle refused to compete due to the "you suck" chants from the audience. Angle finally agreed to compete when Bischoff censored the crowd, and let him have a special guest referee, whom Angle chose to be Daivari. Daivari's officiating was unfair and biased towards Angle's opponents.[15]

The feud between Triple H and Ric Flair began at WWE Homecoming, when Triple H returned to WWE television after three months. The two had been aligned since 2002, and were partners in a tag team match on the show. After they won the match, Triple H turned on Flair, and attacked him with a sledgehammer.[7] The week after, Triple H explained his actions, saying that he realized Flair was no longer the legend he was, and he needed to stop Flair.[17] Flair defeated Triple H in a steel cage match at Taboo Tuesday.[8] A Last Man Standing match was made between the two for Survivor Series.[15]
