  • PIN UP NIGHTS 6TH BIRTHDAY - FRIDAY 27TH NOVEMBER!

    PIN UP NIGHTS 6TH BIRTHDAY
    FRIDAY 27TH NOVEMBER
    THE FLYING DUCK, 142 RENFIELD STREET, 9PM - 3AM, £5
PERFORMING LIVE - DIRTY CUTS//WE'RE ONLY AFRAID OF NYC//MITCHELL MUSEUM//ALWAYS, ME, ME, ME
NEW & CLASSIC INDIE, PUNK, SOUL & ELECTROPOP IN THE MAIN ROOM & A VERY SPECIAL ONE-OFF "PIN UPS DANCEFLOOR DESTROYERS 2003-2009" IN ROOM 101
    HTTP:/ /WWW.PINUP-NIGHTS.CO.UK

Pin Ups is 6! Time flies when you're having fun and it seems like only yesterday we were getting all excited for our first ever Pin Ups in Blackfriars back in 2003. Now we're the longest running indie night in Glasgow and since 2003 we've welcolmed the best new bands in Scotland through our doors and created disco mayhem on a scale never before seen on planet Earth.

In celebration of being 6 years young, we're going to dazzle your senses with an all-new set of "future Pin Ups classics" in the Main Room disco. The challenge we've set ourselves is to avoid playing anything we have ever played before while keeping you lovely people dancing the night away!

Over the years we've had more than a few dancefloor favourites and we're proud that we've heard some of our biggest Pin Ups winners being used by other clubs in Glasgow months after we'd worn them out and thrown the records away. We've heard tales that the APeeC DJs used to forage in the bins outside the Woody for our scraps - but far be it from us to endorse such scandalous rumour.

Speaking of these Pin Ups tunes which have become recognised indie disco standards, for one night only as a nice birthday retrospective we are also going to be playing the 101 songs which have made people dance the most at Pin Ups since the night started back in 2003. We are renaming the Kitchen "Room 101" for the night and will play 101 of the "Pin Up Dancefloor Destroyers 2003 - 2009"!

These Dancefloor Destroyers have been identified through highly scientific means that neither you nor I could possibly understand and some of them haven't been played for years. This is strictly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and the literary types amongst you may note that the "Room 101" reference hints that once these songs go into Room 101 - they might never come out again…

As always we also have top class live bands and Playing live on the night will be Dirty Cuts ( http://www.myspace.com/thedirtycuts ), We're Only Afraid of NYC ( http://www.myspace.com/wereonlyafrai... ), Mitchell Museum ( http://www.myspace.com/mitchellmuseum ) and Always Me, Me Me ( http://www.myspace.com/alwaysmememeg..., and there will also be a special birthday edition fanzine and badge for the first 100 to arrive, birthday cake and free toast!!!!

All this birthday action adds up to a vague time travel theme* which we nod to on our flyer!

Next up for Pin Ups is HLDB on Saturday 12th December, then the Pin Ups Hogmanay Ball 2 - details to follow soon although its on Thursday 31st and will feature a VERY IMPRESSIVE LINE UP. More details coming your way very soon...

    Pin Up Nightsx

ps The eagle eyed who were at the Patrick Wolf 5th birthday last year will have noticed that the Pin Ups 6th Birthday should actually, if we're being very strict, have been back at the start of October. However we had the Circus night and then "Pin Up Frights" for Halloween (pics of both events in the Pin Ups website gallery now!), so it's been bumped back until now. Especially eagle-eyed folk will note that back in the day Pin Ups actually started in June 2003. And...oh be quiet...if we didn't have the birthday you wouldn't be getting free cake..

    * it took all our willpower to not to embrace fully a time travel/back to the future theme. Would you have understood what we were on about if we had compared the list of Dancefloor Destroyers to the Sports Almanac? Yes? No? I'll buy anybody who shows up with a bodywarmer, Nike Air hi-tops and a hoverboard a pint.

DARE YOU ENTER OUR HAUNTED HOUSE??
EXPECT THRILLS, CHILLS AND CLASSIC PIN UP NIGHTS HILARITY
G-G-G-OODY BAG FOR THOSE IN HALLOWEEN FANCY DRESS!
FANZINE AND BADGE FOR 1ST 100
    WWW.PINUP-NIGHTS.CO.UK

Firstly thanks very much to the 400-odd of you who came along to our "Circus" night at the end of September (probably a record Pin Ups attendance - visit the gallery at www.pinup-nights.co.uk to see 99 snaps of the action). It was an amazing evening and we wonder if any other club event in Scotland this year will match the heady atmosphere of fun and frolics which filled the Flying Duck. That is, of course, unless we can make PIN UP FRIGHTS even more fun!

So, what do we have in store for you on the 30th October? Well, the clue is in the name! FRIGHTS! In 6 years of Pin Ups we've never done an event on the Hallowe'en weekend before so we are most excited by the possibilities and have 101 ideas rattling round our tiny heads about how to make the Flying Duck scary. We will definitely have some sort of Haunted House for you to pay a visit to and loads more spooky chills and thrills besides! We want to see you all turning out in your best Halloween outfits and getting right into the terrifying spirit of things!!

Our bands for the evening were specially picked by us months in advance because for PIN UP FRIGHTS we wanted bands capable of putting on a stage show with lots of dressing up and drama. Deadliners shall be Edinburgh's RBRBR ( www.myspace.com/rbrbr), a dance/rock juggernaut who should be as huge as Hot Chip this time next year. Support comes from punk/comedy/rock/jig n reelers The Plimptons ( www.myspace.com/theplimptonsuk ), Louise against the Elements' female fronted pop attitude (www.myspace.com/louiseagainsttheelem... and last but not least Optimo Music's latest signings Louise McVey and the Cracks in the Concrete ( www.myspace.com/louiseandcracks), who will be launching their debut EP.

Our Gruesome Guest DJs will be 3 fine long-term pals of Pin Ups - Grahame Ferguson (a co-founder of Headphone Disco, Grahame has DJ'd throughout the UK, Ireland, Canada, America and Africa this year alone), Craig McGee (man of many successful club nights, the most recent being WHITENOISEFEEDBACKDISTORTION) and Bjorn Sandberg (co-founder of Say Dirty Records and lovely Glasgow band Wake the President).

Will everybody turn up as Michael Jackson? Will we able to get the whole dancefloor doing the Thriller dance at midnight? Will you get a "trick" or a "treat" at the door of the Duck?

Get yourself along to PIN UP FRIGHTS to find out. IF YOU DARE!!

    The Pin Ups Chaps.xx

    ps...

    ....keep going down

    ....and more

    ....just a wee bit more

    BOO!

Did that give you a fright? Go on admit it, it did, just a wee bit.

    A REAL LIVE GORILLA…
A SPLENDID TIME IS GUARANTEED FOR ALL!
TICKETS ARE £6 ON THE DOOR OR £5 IN ADVANCE FROM THE STORE AT WWW.PINUP-NIGHTS.CO.UK

Ladieeeeees and Gentlemen. Roll Up! Roll Up! The Circus is in town!

Yes you lucky scallywags, its time to roll yourself up indeed and make haste to The Big Top! For one night only, Pin Up Nights is transforming into a good old fashioned circus!

Marvel! - At the line up of terrific live bands – Pooch, Sonny Marvello, Mitchell Museum and “Quick, Run”!

Delight! - In seeing The Flying Duck transformed into an actual circus Big Top!

Wonder! - At the antics of Ringmaster Paul Puppet, and the feats performed before your very eyes by the Pin Ups Circus performers!

Dance! - Till 3am to the usual fantastic mix of tunes you'd expect from Glasgow’s best and longest running indie night!

Gape! - At celebrity guest DJ Naboo from The Mighty Boosh!

Goggle! – At the stalls run by members of the Glasgow Craft Mafia (including Pistol Whip Vintage, We Are The Robots and more) and our Funfair games!

And Gaze! – Longingly! - At dishy Pin Ups DJ James “Butcher” Cassidy!

Mindboggling stuff I'm sure you'll agree! That’s not all too as we are planning a few more surprises if we can pull it off, including even a dramatic GORILLA!! If you fancy dressing up and entering the circus spirit then knock yourself out (not literally I mean, just feel free to dress up!)

Those of you who are regulars will know we try our best to create terrific events at Pin Up Nights and always give value for money. This year amongst others we've had Florence and The Machine and Friendly Fires DJing in January, a star-studded Ladies Night 2 and even turned The Flying Duck into a Festival Site in June (complete with Wham Tent!) all at the cost of £5 entry. Despite the jam-packed bill above and obvious costs involved we've kept the price stupidly low. How stupidly low we'll probably only realise on Saturday afternoon when it becomes clear we’ve dropped a zero somewhere in our cost calculations (none of us were brilliant at maths...). Still, that’s for us to worry about and despite the barrel-load of action we've arranged, we're only charging £5 for advance tickets and £6 on the door.

If you've been to any club night other than Pin Ups recently and paid for entry, hopefully you'll agree this is incredible value! You can get your advance tickets from the store section of http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk or in-store/online from Tickets Scotland. (Advance sales would be appreciated as we have 101 things to pay for..)

All the pics from August are on the website as well so have a peek and spot yourself having a boogie. We had originally planned for the Circus to be in August but the bill was going to be better if we did September so we changed it close to last minute. This meant that August’s Pin Ups was a tad under-advertised but you lovely people still turned up in droves so thanks a million.

We are also already lining up more action after the Circus!! In short:

Friday 30th October - Pin Up Nights HALLOWEEEEEEEN Special!!! woooooooooooo
