Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

And Joe Muggins here was one of the people in a Waterstones queue. After leaving a party with family friends, Elspeth, my Harry Potter mad sister persuaded my parents to attach themselves to the Waterstones queue at Wilmslow. So here I am, stood, past the midnight release time, in drizzling rain, watching hyper fan girls run (no, stagger-their high heels on the cobbles explain why) down the street screaming, with their special orange bags.

I spend most of my time playing a rather fruitless 'I Spy' game with Elspeth, and making snide jibes about the wretchedness of the situation. I personally can't see why we cannot wait until tomorrow to buy the book cheaply from some money grabbing supermarket, but Elspeth has adopted a frustrating 'Now we're here we might as well stay' attitude, that is being supported unexpectedly by my Harry-Potter-apathetic mum.

There is a wide-eyed man under a colourful umbrella who keeps looking behind at us and opening his mouth like a goldfish, as if he wants to get involved with our conversation. It's going to be a long night.

We decide, as we have some friends much further up than us, to pass our money to them so that we can leave earlier, although dad is reluctant to leave the queue in case something causes us to still need our place. However, our Harry Potter book still has not arrived and after much waiting we have now entered the shop. The queue winds around all the aisles and shelves, proving to be almost as big as the one outside. After spotting our friend (still hopelessly far from the till) we drop out of our place and watch their slow progress up to the register. A rather annoying nasal voiced woman behind the desk keeps shouting to nervous looking people (shocked in awe as they hold the book in their hands to the light) if she can help them, and churning her way through excited Potter fans. (And how much are they paying her?)

Eventually our friend comes up, and we have our own copy of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. The illustration is the worst I've ever seen on a Harry Potter cover; the famous trio's faces are peculiarly shiny, and Harry has a jutting chin that gives him a resembelance to Clark Kent. The pool of money and jewels is cynically suitable. Are they in J.K.'s house?

We're walking back to the car under drizzle and drunk men pointing out Elspeth's transparent umbrella; it's something like half past one and I'm grumpily tired. Couldn't we have got the book in any other way?


Now do not get me wrong. I still want to know what happens in the end; anyone would having been led up this far. I've so far reached chapter 15 (Elspeth and I are taking one-and-a-half hour shifts-and NO I will not get a second book.) and am thoroughly enjoying it, J.K. has put in answers, and rather frustratingly, filled them with questions again. But I fail to go the next step-an obsession to get it and finish it as quickly as possible.

I will, in all fairness, point out that if there was no sister to share it with I wouldn't be sat here blogging, I'd be finishing the book. But the fact that I have to wait a little longer does not bother me. In fact, I'm quite enjoying this time to be able to do other things, and also that I can enjoy the book over a longer period of time. So relax a little, take some time out and come to the book a bit later!

Of course, there's no point saying that. If you're reading this you've probably already finished the book, and if you're not reading this, then we all know why.

Phew, haven't ranted in some time

Summer holidays have just started so I suppose this is as good as time as any to tell you what's been going on in my world.

Finished the school's rendition of Little Shop of Horrors about a week ago. Yours truly got lead role of Seymour, which was a pleasent surprise. Went better than I thought it would when I first got the part, and I discovered that I have, whatever meagre trace it might be, some ability to sing.

Finished the year 10 GCSE exams, the results, as with all the GCSEs are coming out on the 23rd August. Which is when I'm away on the Nottingham campaign, annoyingly.

As usual for the Sages things are gonna be hectic this summer. Have to oblige to distant-living grandparent's wishes to visit them, which is all very nice but it means every holiday's taken up with it, which is a bit annoying for parents more than me . We might be camping at the end of this week as well, if the bloody weather decides to stop raining for once.
