Aloeric Primary School - A brief history
The first Aloeric was a Norman Knight who was granted the villages of Melksham and Poulshot by William the Conqueror. Built originally in 1972 for 280 pupils, it has expanded into a two-form entry school of nearly 400 children.
There are fourteen classes within the school, with two broadly parallel classes in each year group. KS1 classes are housed within the original school building, and KS2 in a modern 4-class block built in 1997 which was extended to accommodate 8 classes in 2004. There is also a mobile classroom which is used for music and drama lessons. The grounds include infant and junior playgrounds, a sports field, and an environmental area with pond. Since 1 st September 1999 the school has had Foundation School status.
Recent developments include building improvements, extension to the infant playground, the establishment of a computer suite, and provision of external changing facility for after-school sports activites.
