Trivium + The Haunted + Rise To Remain in the Savoy 7/12/09
This was the last date of the tour, and was technically part of the Unholy Alliance, (as was Mastodon last tuesday) but slayer were too cheap/expensive to come over to ireland so the other bands came separately.
The order of the songs is almost definately wrong...
Kirsute Gomen
Becoming The Dragon
Insurrection
Into The Mouth Of Hell We March
A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation
Pillars Of Serpants
Broken One
Like Light To The Flies
Throes Of Perdition
Ember To Inferno
...and so began the screwing about session:
a verse and chorus of The Scientist by Coldplay
For Whom The Bell Tolls \
King Nothing bit ¦- Metallica
Cyanide chorus /
...upon realising they had fuck all time left:
Down From The Sky
Rain
Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr (w/lead guitarist and vocalist from Rise To Remain for 1st half of song)
points of note:
- The volleyball game in the Q before the gig was a great laugh, til i got served into the balls
That wasn't a great laugh at all.
- The banter and atmosphere in the hours outside the savoy beforehand was generally quite excellent.
- I consumed a personal record of 5 hamburgers, as i had to make use of the eurosaver menu like i never have done before.
- the vocalist from Rise To Remain is Bruce Dickinson's son, but he screams, and leaves what little singing there is (the odd chorus in between the breakdowns...) to the lead guitarist. He also appears to have yoinked a few of his dad's moves, which combined with the tacky metalcore skipping around the stage makes for amusing viewing.
- i will never forgive the vocalist for screaming "Are you guys here to see some sherrrrEEEEEEEEEEHD?!" to the crowd before one of the songs. what a tool...
- the Rise To Remain lead guitarist is a phenominal player.
- this doesn't stop Rise To Remain from being an extremely average metalcore band who sum up everything that is bad about the genre.
- I met their rhythm guitarist and drummer before the show and they were pretty nice guys.
- The Haunted were brilliant!
- Their vocalist had the crowd in the palm of his hand from start to finish.
- It felt like a Haunted gig during their set opposed to the set of a support band.
- Casey got their autographs.
- The rhythm guitarist had class hair, and a camo-finish esp explorer
- They didn't play Hollow Ground unfortunately, which is my favourite song by them.
- they began their set in a really cool way, where they appeared to be tuning up and stuff but it kind of played itself into a song, and appeared to be very spontaneous (although it was rehearsed of course). so before everyone knew it, they were into the first song.
- my highlight of their set was All Against All.
- i think Travis Smith was a bit on the drunk side for the first few songs, cos some of the double pedal and snare hits were a bit dodgy timing wise.
- Matt had a pair of big massive gleaming white thrash metal runners.
- Matt spat approximately 97 times during the show (not actually at the crowd, but i think one of them hit me). It was not that cool.
- I noticed Corey was wearing a black spandex vest thing under his t-shirt, which was pretty gay haha!
- Paulo injured some young wan with his bass while crowd surfing.
- the bearded old guy who barged in front of me half way through was a twat, as Mr. Heafy pointed out.
- most people don't know how to pronounce Heafy (its HAY-FEE dammit, not HEE-FEE!), despite it being a lot of peoples 4th time seeing them apparently.
- the one crowd surfer i encountered got absoloutely pwned by the security, much to my delight, as they pulled him down from behind and he landed quite painfully, and lost his phone. it sounds harsh, but the bastard was wearing boots and bate about 9 of us in the face. good times.
- i "touched" 3 members of Trivium...
- i missed actually meeting them on 2 occasions throughout the day by a couple of minutes, much to my sadness, and i also was only a finger5 commentaires 352 jours

Cool. Yeah, 'twas decent alright. Although Dan got way too locked and was really sloppy and possibly lost our friend Barry his job in the Brog by being a general asshole to the manager. I think he got a 2 month ban actually... But yeah, a good night was had by all, or by me at least. Got paid in beer which was nice. Up to anything this weekend- I've a free gaff...
