  • questions u never asked

answers to questions you didn't ask.

i filled out a few interviews on the plane. its not really that i feel i did them super good or anything, but i DID do them. and i think i deserve credit for that. and a massage. or free cake. and since the odds are pretty low that you go to rock bridge high, i'll share em with you. cause im good at sharing. now share your cake.

    interview numero uno
    ROCK BRIDGE HIGH'S THE ROCK
er. uh. i mean, rolling stone.

You guys seem pretty youthful. How old are you? What were your aspirations in high school before you started the band?
im 23, making me the oldest. marcus and j are 21, chris is 19. i change everybody his diapers, wipe his face, give him his ba-ba, teach him about the get up kids and stuff. in high school i guess i fancied myself a graphic designer. i worked for a bunch of companies doing that and it was rad, i thought id go to art school but its expensive and its kind of the career everybody thinks theyre gonna go into. like girls and fashion design. and so i got realistic, sat down at a desk with a computer and made some songs. i wear ties now.

Your drummer left high school at the age of 16. What was the motivation behind this move? What was it like to enter the adult world prematurely?
well his whole family are basically drummers. so they were all for it. i can't speak for him, but i can't imagine it was too much like the adult world, cause he still lived at home and everything, when we were home at least. in a lot of ways it was like suspending our child hoods. especially cause we play doctor on the bus. he got his GED and hes taking online courses for business management now though. which is something i would never wanna do. im interested in economics, and kinda marketing but not business.

Tell us about your experience on The Real World: Austin. Did you meet the cast? If so, how were they different from your expectations?
they seemed really normal when we met them and we thought it was gonna be a boring season, but then within like the first episodes somebody already got their face smashed in, came out, was racist, and like hooked up with like 20-40 people.

In 2005 you released a DVD titled OMG HGB DVD ROTFL. What does the title stand for? Btw, what do you think of digital slang?
o mah gawd hellewwwgoodbi digital video disc (?) rolling on the floor licking. i love digital slang. it makes asking age/sex/location easier. wanna cyber type? 444.

Please share a funny story from the Vans Warped Tour. Would you go on the tour again? Why or why not?
our friend andy hooked up with a girl from a indie movie called "evil bong" which we later saw on pay per view. but we didn't actually seeeee it caue we're cheapskates.

Who is your favorite touring mate?
your use of the term "mate" makes me think you want my answer limited to british people, of which we tour with two. andy richards and duncan johnson. they tried to basically tell us they were huge celebrities in the uk so when we got over doing press we asked everybody about them and gave them tons of shout outs but no one knows who they are. we felt bad so i haven't told them but im trying to pump them up over there as much as possible so they wont be embarrassed. of the two, i guess duncans my favorite, just out of loyalty. even though today at the airport today he sold me out, DIDN'T get startbucks with me like he said he would, IGNORED me with his ipod nano, his ipod nano which is expressly NOT his 80gig ipod we bought him. he apparently doesn't appreciate gifts. next time andy is getting the ipod.

You use the vocoder in your music often. Who inspired this decision? Kraftwerk? Daft Punk?...Cher?
the manufacturer who included a vocoder with my software is largely responsible. because mostly i used it because its there and it sounds really cool to hear your voice do something weird like that. but yeah daft punk too. i always kinda thought there was something n
