Originated in 2005. The Cessnock Goannas were formed from the merging of 2 rival clubs the Solander Snakes and the Morgan POwer Marlins. The fierce rivalrvy had been ongoing for 3 years with many fierce battles. when the 2 teams merged the best of each sides came together to form a touch football team to take on the Blacktown touch footbal Competition. In their maiden season the Goannas Competed strongly in every game reaching the grand final. They were unsuccessful loosing 6-5 in extra time.
This year in 2008 the Goannas are back with a new look side. Loosing stars such as DOnoghue, Winikerei, renshall and craigie the side has picked up new signings of Fox, Brazel, Gaji, Bridges and Corton.

- After winning their first trial match 7-3 last week the Cessnock boys were put to shame last night against Toey. The Goannas started off on fire with a try in the first set to Z. Brazel. The depleted Toey side who arrived late and may be penalised for it hit back through a very soft try in the corner. The Cessnock boys fell away letting in another 2 first half tries.
The second half attack was slightly improved with M.Cromie crossing in the early minutes from an overhead pass by jackson and then Jackson raced 25 metres down the touchline to score but was disallowed, Z.Brazel injected himself again to set up Jackson the Next play. Toey ran out winners 5-3 but will be penalised 5 tries for being late. The Goannas were lucky to get away with the points.
