My first review...
"With it being such an intimate gig, the crowd were automatically part of it, and I think the whole atmosphere for the evening was set with first act; Ben Sturrock. A talented singer/songwriter from St Andrews, this unassuming young man took to the stage with surprising presence as he began his set; guitar in hand and a voice that you just didn't see coming at all! His set was blighted by the Gods as a string twanged its way off the guitar; poor bloke just shrugged it all off and carried on – with the help and blessing of the crowd whom he had won over by his first few songs. His set was diverse; but it went with the flow and carried the audience along.
Despite the impromptu faulty equipment, Ben Sturrock is an instantly likeable/amiable artist; and in true Scottish fashion, the first to play down his talent. His music is like the end of a family party; it's the sing-a-long you wish you always had. Laughter, love and good times. Like a true story-teller, you are being swept away, painting the scenes in your head through his music. Brilliantly open and honest lyrics, sang with one of the most natural voices I've heard in a long time. His debut album launches on 23rd November at the Tron Theatre and if you wish to be part of something great at its early stages; then you'll be there to support him and his music – you won't be left disappointed.
