It touches on the horror genre, but it's more sci-fi. I'm an author. My novel, "Mountain Game," is about aliens from the Guardian Empire that crash on earth in the Northwestern Territory during the 1820s’ trapping era. Among the survivors is a political sadist: likes to peel people alive. (thus touching on horror) Conflict and battles ensue as mountain men declare war on creatures, they view, as ghosts from American Indian mythology. My book is violent but if you like historical fiction / fantasy, with a sci-fi twist, consider my novel. It's kind of Jeremiah Johnson, meets, a "darker," Darth Vader.
