- A Shortbread-tin toss from Stirling Castle, Nicky-Tams is one of those rare things - a pub that looks traditional, but thinks in original terms. As one of only a few free houses left in Stirling, it’s a wee refuge from the chain pubs and style bars. The staff are friendly and the clientele is varied.
Nicky-Tams is considered to be one of the most haunted pubs in Scotland. The spirits were let loose in 1999 during renovation work in which a photograph of a clergyman was found in a hidden alcove behind a wall. The photograph, which is on display behind the bar, dates from the late 1800’s seemingly triggered a series of unsettling happenings on its discovery.
Possibly related to several murders in the vicinity around the early 1900’s, staff and customers frequently report unusual sightings, sounds and sensations. The ghosts usually seem friendly and if you know where to look you can even see a few of their faces hidden in the walls of the pub.
- Regular Features
- The weekly events in the pub:
- Jam Night - Wednesdays
- Upstairs every Wednesday is Jam Night. Local musicians and visitors get together to play some tunes and sing songs. A great place for intimate gigs from up-and-coming talent and seasoned performers alike. Everyone is welcome to join in, play some tunes or just have a wee listen.
[from 9pm, upstairs] - Live Music - Saturdays
- A Saturday matinee from various musicians. Great wee sets each week from Jam Night regulars, local talent and special guests.
[4pm - 6pm] - Pub Quiz - Sundays
- The popular Nicky-Tams quiz doesn't take itself too seriously. Currently presented by Dave, Stuart & Johnny with something for everyone. Easy-peasy general knowledge, name-that-tune and TV theme rounds are regular features with Pop-up Pirate deciding any tiebreakers.
Entry is FREE. All rounds are separate with drinks to be won at the end of each. This means you can turn up late or leave early and still take part (and still win). The chaps also play the best and most varied music in town so you'll even get a good night without joining in.
[from 9pm]
