Über mich

Motto
"Jetzt hab ich dich!"
Ich über mich
Yep, i'm sitting at work...eh...not doing much in the way of work. Add to that, spending most of the rest of my time as a hermit, only coming out of my cave to shake my fists and growl at passers by. Throw a handful of 2-day parties, meals to make you burst, wine, give it all a good stir and you've pretty much got my life summed up.
Music
This box isn't big enough to list everyone...Bad Religion, Snuff, The Damned, No FX, Dead Kennedys, The Hives, The Misfits to name but a few punk bands. Then there's the Rock & the Metal..Apocalyptica, Queens Of The Stone Age, Amorphis, Katatonia, Tiamat, Iron Maiden, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Rammstein..to name but a few, then there's the Blues....the Classical...the down right wierd...even the odd bit of dance music (believe it or not). I suppose there are only two genres of music: gid tunes & pish tunes...it is that simple!
Films:
Aye, i've watched the odd one or two. Most recently: I Am Legend, 28 Weeks Later, Ocean's 13, Idiocracy.

In general, i like horror, martial arts, comedy (a select few...), etc. I've got a particular thing for Japanese films: Battle Royale, Zatoichi, Audition, The Ring (not the one the Americans screwed up), Versus, Ichi The Killer...the list goes on...they're so beautifully shot and the slightly (or very) twisted nature...love it!!
Sports:
Watching? I've been known to watch the odd fitbaw game.
Participating in? Well, that's another story...i've recently discovered the joy of drunken trampolining, i'm fairly skilled in the half-mile stagger home (although i can be less successful if it's the 3-legged version..getting pulled about and all).
Scared Of:
A worldwide grape crop failure, yes....i'm a Wineaux!
Happiest When:
Eating tasty food, drinking tasty wine (the darker, heavier and bloodier the better) in good company. Bouncing about, out my tits to some quality music. Playing with some member of the felis family (doesn't anyone else fancy playing with a tiger???).
Going to see in the near future:
APOCALYPTICA!!!!!....in december...wwwaaahhhhhhhhh!!! Hopefully someone interesting will tour before then to keep this gig starved music fan happy....
Other things I like:
Sleeping...Oblivion...cooking
...thunder storms (there's one happening right now!!!!).....candlelight...an
imals (except donkeys - they're all ass-holes)...blah blah blah blah blah...if you want to know more than that...ask...nosey!

  • Classical Rock....not Classic Rock

Yep, Friday night, the last concert of the year (for me anyway) and what a finish to what's been an amazing couple of months...The Dwarves, Toy Dolls, The Hives, Queens Of The Stone Age, Paradise Lost...it was going to have to be something special to top all that off....and it was...Apocalyptica. I can't remember the first song they played, but i do remember that they played Refuse Resist second followed by a selection of their own songs, one by Rammstein and a couple of Metallica's....and all of it was immense. I'll try and get some pictures put on here so that you can see what i'm talking about...what a night. I still can't believe the range of sounds that they were getting out of those cellos. While watching the ever enlarging pit get more and more violent as Hall Of The Mountain King got faster and faster...i couldn't help wonder what Greig would be thinking, pleased i imagine...Metal with a Classical edge, Classical with a Metallic edge......f*cking brilliant!!

After seeing Queens Of The Stone Age fail miserably (and they were great), I really didn't think that anyone would have been challenging The Hives for that Gig Of The Year award.....now....i'm not so sure....for the first time in it's prestigious 1 year history, it may well have to be awarded jointly.....

While that's the tour over, if you do get the chance to see Apocalyptica sometime....GO!

  • A night of Swedish madness

Yes, it's the day after the night before....i'm bruised, very sore, stiff, i've got a lump un the back of my head the size of a cabbage and an incessant ringing in my ears. "How did you end up in that state", i hear you ask...simple, The Hives...they came, we saw and they blew us away!

First up: Swedish three piece: “Give Up Your Dayjob". I must admit that the first couple of songs left me with a bemused, “Eh…whit??” expression on my face and thoughts of getting another pint or going out for a smoke in my head. The frantic drumming; slightly odd, shouty vocals; and a keyboard set to ‘Metallic-Electro Super-wet Fart tone’, all came as a bit of a surprise and didn’t really impress. I’m not sure whether they just took a couple of songs to warm up (or grow on me), or if it was just the intoxicants taking their full affect ;) , but I soon found myself laughing and enjoying their music. I’m not sure if I can see myself listening to the likes of “Sperms Are Germs”, “Frank Suicide” or “Pissing On A Panda” on the train in the morning (or even in the house drinking for that matter) but the whole performance (the keyboard player’s antics in particular) was entertaining and, being slightly Hives-esque in style, a fitting start to the evening.

Next up: Dan Sartain….what can I say about this guy that won’t get me sued or something? He either thinks he is, or aspires to be, Mike Ness but he’s not and will never be. I listened to a handful of songs, at most, before going for that smoke and pint that I’d been thinking about earlier, and I didn’t come back until he was off the stage. Man, look at the name of the first band, do so and take up...f*ck knows, anything but what you're doing now!

The main event: To put this in context, I have literally been waiting YEARS for The Hives to play somewhere within reasonable travelling distance. “Tussles in Brussels” and all the downloaded concerts that I’ve watched had only made me want to see them more. This was a big thing, and they did not disappoint! From the minute they came on stage in their black and white school uniforms, until the minute they left a sweat-drenched mob of Glaswegians screaming for yet another encore (from Pelle’s “we’ll finish tonight up now, and maybe we’ll come back and finish it again, if you know what I mean” we knew it was coming), they were amazing. I’ll not bore you by listing the songs or anything like that…Howlin’ Pelle asked “While I’m sure we are, you can tell me: Are The Hives really this good?”…aye mate, yes wur!

Even ending up flat on my back, being trampled on and ending up with some 20 stone giant landing right on my head couldn’t spoil the fun. Although, since there were three very small, extremely skinny girls in front of me before I fell, I can’t quite figure out how I ended up with my skull being banged off the floor by him…thanks the gods for double crowns…you can’t get a decent hair cut but the extra armour will save your life! It’s a shame that my cracked rib wasn’t similarly protected.

Ha ha! Yes I am a Daddy. I am in fact Daddy Cool. As I write this I am a) full of 'man-cold' and b) at home listening to my little bundle yell her face pink because she needs changed.

Thanks for your congrats. Ain't she a cutie! And three months old already. Born on 30th July. Scary stuff. We're still through in Posh-ville, but posh-ville with damp in the bedrooms. Ah, how decadent of us!

Life has been turned upside down, bent into three, straightened out, given a tickle, rolled up in a ball and thrown into a tumble dryer, pressed against a wolf, curdled, marooned, simmered for 30 minutes on gas mark 5 and then dangled from the nose of a giant. That, in summary, is what having a wee baby girl is like. Only much, much more fun. Honestly, it may be cliched, but it's the best thing ever.

Anyway, how are you? Yes I've probably changed my mobile number - I'll send it to you. A Soiree would be excellent. And soon! Take care dude.

And as for her sanity... we'll have to wait and see.

    Hello there!

Posh-ville is... well tonight, like every night was full of the Ned. Mmmm, how I love Neds. They make me feel superior without having to do anything other than not wear a tracksuit. Paul's across this weekend too, which is pretty damn cool. He's been promising to visit since last November but Physics has always kept him busy. Damn those laws of Physics.

On the active quest front... I've given up questing. Ish. Kinda. Sort of. I'll explain when I speak to you but there are some reasons. Maybe not good enough reasons but they're there. Will text you sometime over the weekend.

It would be grand indeed if we could arrange some form of soiree in the not too distant future. It's been a while!

Well, I'll sign off now and will write / text you. Hope all is well through in Unthank.
