    • Chang Mai

      Well first off thank you to everyone who convinced me to take the journey up to Chang Mai! The city is amazing and I think when I look back on this trip it is going to be the highlight.

      Last Saturday I hoped on the overnight bus up to Chang Mai. Some advice for anyone who wants to backpack around thailand, take the trains, not the buses. Two hours into our 12 hour bus ride it broke down for a couple of hours. Then as we were entering Changmai the police searched our bus and backpacks, very scary experience. The one good thing about it is I got to meet some people who I would end up spending the whole week with, two Poms, Dan and Lauren and one Danish girl Tania. They are mint!

      Sunday we lazed around, at night there was this festival in town, turned out to be one of the highlights of the week. Thousands of lanterns were released, very amazing, parades, fireworks for EIGHT HOURS! On monday we decided would hire a jeep and take it up the mountain! We had an amazing day. waterfalls, rapids, views, temples but... at 6pm on the way down the breaks failed on and we were forced to make an emerency stop into the ditch. After being picked up by local mountain folk we got to a village down the mountain (at this stage it was dark) and were forced to hitch hike in! Very funny day and an experience I will not forget in a hurry. When we got back to Chang Mai it was off To Muai Thai Boxing! Sensational, saw one of the best fights of all time!

      Tuesday we all fell ill, something we must have eaten, Wednesday off to Happy Thai cooking school, so watch out guys I know how to make the meanest Thai Green Hurry NZ has ever seen!

      Thursday me and Dan went on a day 'trek' into the mountains with a tour group, Elephant trekking, bamboo rafting, whitewater rafthing, waterfalls, longneck tribes, big ear tribes. One of the funniest days of my life.

      Yesterday I caught the overnight BUS back to Bangkok, here for one night then fly down to Hat Yai in the south to see art.

    • Bangkok nights

      Well after 3nights of being in Thailand it is well and truly time for an update on this thing. Bangkok has been an experience allright, not always pleasant but an experience in which most backpackers will have to go through when they come to thailand.

      The first two nights I stayedat a place just off Kho soan road which was pretty gross, rooms rented out by the hour, half the punters are male europeans with asian women hanging off their arms. The good thing about Sawadee Smille Inn was I met this couple, a kiwi guy (mike) and aussie chick (rebecca) who I drunk with for the first two nights. It was mint and I think meeting them has made the first few days so much easier. Mikes brother is keith robinson ex all black and one of the funniest guys I have met. Last night was also cool as I met this mint couple from vancouver to drink with.

      Last night I moved onto kho soan road, which proved to be a bit of a let down as right below the backpackers was one of the biggest night clubs in all of bangkok, I got very little sleep. At four in the morning I went for a wonder to find earplugs.

      My first day was mint, boat rides, temples, good food. Day two was not so good as I fall for a major tourist trap. I was supposed to go on a tour of the famous tiger temple. Needless to say I was the only one on the tour and they dropped me off at some random eatery 3 hours before the show. Luckily enought the bridge over the river kwai was near so I went there instead. Today was spent on the grand palace, amazing!

      Things are so frikken cheap here. I have had two massages, the most expensive of the two was $3 NZ for an hour. One was a full body and the other was a foot massage. God help the chick who had to work on my gross feet. I also brought a rolex for 16 dollars. normal watches go for about 4 dollars but because it is rolex you are forced to fork out a bit more.

      In about an hours time I an hoping on an overnight bus to chang mai in the north. I have booked myself into a backpackers that apparently is one of the coolest in the world. In Chang Mai I hope to trek, do a cooking course, a massage course and rafting. But who knows I am playing everything but air at the moment.

      Well Im loving thailand, Its what I expected and so much more, but please send me mesages as I am travelling by myself for another 10 odds days its cool to know people are thinking of me!

      Hey guys this is the first of many blog entries I will be writing while over in thailand. I have been here only a day and I love it! I had a days stopover in Sydney so I got to see the city, highlight would of been the boatright on the harbour!

      Am currently in bangkok. Things are crazy! The car that picked me up wouldnt have looked out of place in Flaxmere, a black ford with tinted windows, I thought I was going to die! I refused to get into the car but i had no other option as it was 1am over there. My first 'Hotel' is just off kho shan road, where all the tourists are. Its shit, the rooms can be rented out by the hour and every second guy this has a young thai girl hanging off his arm. Was in the bar last night and met this mint as kiwi couple from the waitkato, we are meeting up tonight and going to a ping pong show! Thats all for now, am now off to explore the city of bangkok!
