The Ideals First Review
the Ideals - taken from www.cdtimes.co.uk
1/11/06 saw The Ideals receive their first review. It was compiled by Richard Hughes, who writes for both the website CD Times and the magazine Music-Zine.
"The Myspace phenomenon seems to get bigger and bigger... It's acquisition by Mr. Murdoch for a rather large fee would suggest a long term future, but we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, it's still a great place to find both new and established acts - The Mars Volta recently streamed their entire new album through their Myspace page. There's a lot of joy to be had from discovering new, unsigned bands in its depths that deserve to be brought to the attention of the paying masses. The Ideals are one such band.
Harking back to the musical hay days of 90's Britpop, these three superbly crafted songs are full of hooks and chiming guitars that put the recent attempts by Oasis into the shade. Combining the Beatles-tinged pop influences favoured by The La's and Shack with hints of Americana in the vocal harmonies of The Jayhawks, these guys are creating songs of indie-pop goodness. Shine is the highlight of the three tracks streaming here, a sunshine filled pop gem that rattles along with it's 60's tinged guitar hooks laden with wistful lyrics and vocal harmonies. Signs of Life prove their no one trick pony however as the elegant string arrangement is just hidden in the mix behind the guitars whilst Come On Come On is a playful romp of rock n roll dreams with trashy guitars and clattering drums that sounds like Oasis at their Definitely Maybe peak.
Regularly playing around their native Glasgow, a little push would be all they need to make the trip south of the border and allow their dreamy tunes to infiltrate the public conscious.
