It was an unusually warm day, he didnt like the heat it was room temerature or nothing, today was different in that something had stirred inside him compelling him almost outside. The afternoon heat was bearing down hard, it was something he was unused to, he hadnt bothered to wear the instantly recognisable jacket he was known for instead he had opted for the white t shirt and heavily worn denim. It was half two in the afternoon, his temporary sojourn into the sunlight had given him a thirst so had passed into one of the local newsagents for a bottle of water. He was tired not from any physical exertion only the heat that seemed unwavering, there was a commotion at the end of the street, "Hey I only deliver, you want me to take it in its fifty quid extra" the reply was quick, "I dont have that kind of money on me" "Not my problem Pops" said the scruffy delivery driver, Pops was a little harsh the man couldnt have been any older than fifty, not a proud physical specimen but by no means an aged antiquity. "Excuse me, I couldnt trouble you for a hand could I" He thought for a second then acknowledged with a slight head gesture, "I couldnt manage it on my own" The two men managed to carry the two seater ivory sofa into the old mans living room, setting it down in the space where it was obvious one had been before. The old man looked a little strained, "Can i offer you a refreshment" the blunt reply came "I really shouldnt" "Nonsense, its the least i can do" The old man dissappeared into the adjoining kitchen separated only by a thin veil of curtain. He looked around nervously, the long glass table, the small immaculate fireplace unusually lacking in family photographs, he assumed this man had little or no family to speak of. "Here we are a nice glass of lemonade" The words were barely out of his mouth as he turned his back, the glass shattered on contact with the old mans neck severing his Carotid artery. The old man lay on the red carpet clutching his wound barely able to utter a word, He stood motionless and blood spattered, thats the thing with severing the Carotid the blood seems to gush like a burst water pipe. He rushed to the kitchen washing his hands, his attention was drawn to a peculair sight on the window sill, it was a picture of a woman in her mid twenties a dark haired beauty, even if her face was partially covered, it seems the man did have family but most of all he was struck by a sudden sense of deja vu.
