We sit, chatting on the couch. Our thighs are snugly pressed together; your arm is around my shoulder. We’ve been here for hours and it’s nice, but I want more. I twist slightly and look you directly in the eyes. I hold the gaze for a moment and then my eyes fall slightly to your lips. Slightly embarrassed and uncertain with how to proceed, I look away. I wish I was more experienced at this, or had more confidence, or both. You break the silence with another joke, we share a laugh and our eyes meet again. I bite my lower lip, a nervous habit. You say something, and concentrated intently on the words, my eyes slipping away again, and my brain searches for an appropriate response. Minutes pass and I build up my courage, I turn my head slightly and lock eyes. You don’t give me the opportunity to slip away this time, and I don’t want to. We both lean in and somewhere my eyes close. Our lips meet, somewhat awkwardly, it feels a little weird and a little strange, but also wonderful. Your lips move slightly against mine. I attempt to mimic the movement and fail dismally. I smile slightly at my own inexperience and clumsiness. Then I try again. It’s not fireworks, but your lips make my whole body tingle from head to toe radiating out in waves from my stomach. When we finally break apart our foreheads meet and rest together.
